Added MaxxAir Fan in Crusader kitchen

I changed out the kitchen vent to the MaxxAir MaxxFan 7000K with remote and built in rain cover. There was a low voltage wire running right along side the existing vent so installation was very easy. Mounted the remote with Velcro across the room. Got a great deal on Amazon!Click image for larger version

Thanks for sharing. I've contemplated this mod as well, but the uncertainty of where the power is has kept me from trying it.

I was hoping the wires would be running close to the vent since there's a row of lights that run down the center of the camper. 1st removed the 4 screws that hold the ceiling trim piece on for the existing vent & started looking up in there. Had to reach around under the insulation but there it was. It's a purple and white wire that is actually labeled "low voltage wire". 👍🏼
The hardest part of the whole project was getting the putty tape off of the existing screws on the roof. 😝

I installed (2) MaxxFan 7500K last summer so that they can work in push/pull fashion to move air through the TT. To get the old putty off, I used a heat gun set to a lower setting. The 12V wiring was nearby but had to reach into the insulation a little to tighten the wire nuts & wrap with electrical tape. The remotes are line-of-sight so I had to strategically place them so that they work from the wall without removing from their holsters.

I've been thinking on doing this above the bed. I'm aware that the opening is pre-wired for an AC unit, but not sure if there are any 12 volt wires available. May have to take the vent out and have a look.
My 2015 unit already has a vent fan in the kitchen, however it's the small fan you normally find in the bathroom. In my opinion it's useless! I will probably do the same in my kitchen as Ksilvi did with a MaxxAir. Nice job!

I'm a bit confused by which color Maxxair lets light through. In your picture in the original post, is that the white cover or the smoke colored cover? I don't want to sacrifice light.

I climbed on the roof today before putting the trailer back in storage and the AC unit is directly behind my kitchen vent. It is about 9" away, so it looks like there is just enough clearance for a Maxxair. Also, I took the shroud off from inside and there are several power lines running right next to it; 110v (yellow), what I think are two 12v (red & white), 1 coaxial (black), and 1 that I don't know what it is (black, thinner than coaxial).

This mod looks doable for me. I can't reach the vent in the kitchen so I need a remote or I'm always going to be messing with a step stool.

We have the smoke colored (clear tinted dark) covers and they let light in

The black opaque ones probably would not....

From what I read, the white ones don't let light in either.... it is confusing.

I have a white one and it does block the light when closed.

Boom - Done!

Thanks to the OP for this post, I couldn't resist.

One of the best mods for our Crusader yet, and perfect with the remote, for that high vent location in the kitchen.
I'm 6'4 and I still couldn't reach that thing, this solves the problem in spades.

With all of the windows in our 325RES, this will surely create nice airflow in our coach.

I ordered it on Tuesday from Amazon, and it showed up this morning (without Prime no less). The butyl is messy, but the lapping compound came off nicely. A short trip to Camping World (3 miles from our house) to get some new Butyl and lapping compound, and it was a nice do-it-yourself job in the driveway.

Which color did you go with? I prefer the white because it matches everything on the outside, but I want some light to come through so that forces me to the smoke colored unit.

I'm going to do this mod in 2 weeks.

I went with white, also because it matches everything else up top, and it's cheaper.
The white cover does let some light through, but not as much as the stock vent cover. It matters not to me because I've got plenty of lights anyway. Everything has been upgraded to LED also, which is much better light than the stock incandescent bulbs.

Great choice, and all the best on your mod.

How do you know which wire is hot when wiring it up?

We have a fan-tastic fan in our bedroom too that we had installed by General RV when we purchased the camper. They tapped into one of the lights that's nearest to the vent location. There are several lights in the bedroom so I bet you've got low voltage wires near your vent.
