Adjustable ceiling vent for AC

There are a few things I'm surprised aren't standard equipment. One of these is adjustable ceiling vents for the AC that can be closed/adjusted. It looks like this is a common change people make on their units.

Two questions:

1. The current ones I have don't close, they only swivel. They are 7 inches in diameter, 1 1/8 collar, and 4 3/4 opening. I see there are several companies making after market units. Does anybody recommend one over another and know they will work on my Crusader?

2. How do you remove the ones already installed? I glanced at it and it isn't immediately obvious to me. There are three little notches/holes around the edge -- that may be involved in the removal process.

Any tips appreciated.

To remove the vents just carefully pull them (you are removing the piece the swivels not the entire fixture). If you are gentle they won't snap.

A tip, while they are off, get some foil tape and seal the gaps. A lot of cool air escapes back inside the roof if there are gaps.

I wanted to correct my bad info above for the archive. The collar is 1.5" and the opening is 4.75".
