Atwood HW Heater Question

The Atwood is new to me, I am not sure what my old trailer had. Anyways, when you first turn the HWH on gas is the red light supposed to light up then go out when the heater lights? It did that on my old trailer but does not on the new Lacrosse with the Atwood.

No, the light is not supposed to come on at all. It only lights if there's a "fault" during the spark-ignition process. Just to make sure you know, never turn on the electric hearing element unless you have water in the tank; otherwise the element will burn out in a matter of seconds.

Thanks Barry, I was concerned being that I was use to my old unit lighting up when switched on gas. I learned the hard way about the electric mode/lack of water with my first trailer .

Here is the manual for all Atwood RV water heaters.
Barry is right on.

The red light in the Atwood DSI system is a "non-ignition" indicator; it will not illuminate unless after 8 seconds of calling for heat, the flame does not light.

In your old Suburban water heater, the DSI Fault light came on anytime the control board called for heat but the flame was not lit. Once the flame lit, the light went out.
