bike rack to frame and warranty

If I were to fabricate a steel bar/receiver for the purpose of a bike rack.... and attach it to my frame in the rear of the trailer instead of connecting it to bumper, would it have a negative effect on any remaining warranty that I might have on trailer components? My 1 year bumper to bumper expired in late October.

Warranty is void if anything is attached to frame or bumper other than spare.

There is tons of info on why that is a real bad idea and potential workarounds.

I am not talking about connecting it to the bumper like these posts describe. I know that you will lose you bumper. A neighbor of mine found out the hard way. I am considering doing what Keystone does on their Outbacks already. I wish Prime Time would do the same.

I believe what others have said but wonder why some of the Grey Wolf trailers came with the racks as part of the "winter promotional package."

I also asked this question a couple months ago, and the consensus was not to add the bike rack receiver... "may" be OK, but not worth the risk. I had previously done this on an old popup and worked great, but elected not to do on the new TT.

IMHO... If you still want to proceed with the hitch, I suggest replace the bumper with a heavier grade steel and have a knowledgable welding shop create a custom receiver that is welded directly to your TT frame in a way that evenly distributes the load... remember, your bikes will bounce like a diving board creating a lot more stress than you think.

Instead, I upgraded TV to a pickup truck... problem solved.

I wasn't talking about the bumper either.
Any thing after the factory user installed to the frame or bumper voids frame warranty.

Previously, I called FR and they confirmed warrantee would be void.

P.S. I went on the Keystone Outback website.... nice looking TT and the pic of the receiver looked to be what I was also thinking about...

I had our dealer install it on ours when we purchased. It was explained to me by the dealer that if they did the work, all warranty(s) would be covered.

I'm sure you've read it here or in other forums, be aware that adding the bikes to the back reduces your tongue weight.

If I didn't already own the expensive/well built bike rack, I would have heavily considered the expensive toporails(?) out of Canada. I paid our dealer around 300 to install the receiver and the rack was around 300 IIRC.

I asked my dealer about installing a hitch to the frame. He refused saying that it could cause cracks in the walls at the slide out. I went with his recommendations. I believe he knows more about TT then I do.

Somebody had to say it. My money is on a "dealer only" warranty and that is good for 30 minutes or "off the lot" whichever occurs first.

I see that the new PT Avengers have a fold down rack in the rear of the 32bhs. I wish PT would offer an after market solution.

Sabre has this rack as well.
My kids are to old for bikes now so this rack hauls beer instead.
