Coleman roadtrip grill gas line

Hello...Does anyone know what type of gas line we need to purchase to use with the coleman roadtrip grill? We want to hook it up to the exterior gas line on our Primetime tracer 2800rld. We bought it from Amazon and 2 different gas lines but neither will do the trick. Hope to hear real soon. Thanks Bob

You will not have much heat in your grill unless you connect to a high pressure tank, Walmart and Camping world have the adaptor hoses. These grills are made with Coleman fitting and regulator for a high pressure tank. Your external line on your trailer has been reduced to low pressure by the regulator at your tanks. If you "built" an adaptor hose to connect the Grill to the trailer the flame would be so small that a burger would cook in terms of hours. Been there, done that, now connected to a 20 lb tank.

It is the roadtrip lxe grill.

We have a Coleman Road Trip grill as well, but as far as the gas line goes, it should't matter what brand you have. You must connect directly to the propane tank(s) in order to get high pressure gas. The Coleman has a regulator that connects to the rear of it. You can get the hose at most RV supply places. You'll also need an adapter for the line to be able to connect to the tanks. Available at the same fine RV stores. We bought both items at Camping World and you can see them on their website.

I have a roadtrip grill and use the external gas line. The roadtrip has that long specialty nut that screws onto the back, that is also attached to the regulator. The regulator can be removed, then I used a small threaded nipple to attach to specialty nut and hose. When I get home I can take a picture of my setup and send to you. It works great.

I'd like to see what you've done with your Roadtrip also. I just got the latest VW catalogue and see that the hose + adapter is around $90. So if there is a way some could use the external low pressure conn. underneath that'd be great.

Do you still get enough flow/pressure to get the grill to heat up okay?

All right, here it is. With this setup, my grill works just as well as using the regulator that came with the grill and a portable bottle. I used the Camco kit #57635. I used this kit simply because the quick connect fit the female connection on the Lacrosse (Tracer is probably the same), and it was the only one I could find at a local store. The knob valve in the kit is not needed. The first pic is what my regulator looks like as supplied from Coleman. The second, you can see I removed the specialty nut from the regulator and using a nipple found at local hardware store, attached the quick connect from kit. This goes on one end of the hose from the kit, the other end of hose goes to trailer quick disconnect. Hopefully this helps.

Does that fitting have a name? Where did you buy it?

If it is this, the male quick disconnect came in the kit. The brass specialized nut was from my regulator. I should have clarified that I had two Coleman regulators because my first RoadTrip grill was kindly liberated from my previous 5th wheel by some nice individuals that decided they needed it more than me, but were not smart enough to take the regulator, front legs, or grilling plates. So the specialized nut that screws onto the back of the grill can be simply unscrewed from the regulator assembly, and has female threads once unscrewed.

Bob...We also bought a Coleman grill and the first time I tried to use it I got fittings to connect to the gas line out of the regulator. THAY WAY DOES NOT WORK. The line is double regulated and does not put out enough gas. Went back to the friendly propane supplier and got a new set of fittings and got the grill hooked up between 1 of the gas bottles and the reglator and it works GREAT. I got the fitting aimed so that the gas bottle cover still works. Very well pleased how it all turned out.

Thank you Autorot8 !! I was doing the same setup as yours. I had broken down a second regulator and when I went to the "propane shop" for a fitting the manager convinced me that Coleman uses a special high pressure regulator on these Roadtrip grills and even with this regulator removed it would not work well on the low pressure line from the trailer, so much for the "propane specialist". I ordered the fitting I need to adapt my 10 foot hose, thanks again Autorot8, it is guys like you that make this Forum a great community. I want to connect direct and not carry a 20 lb tank, great job Autorot8, the guy at the propane shop was very convincing, this now puts my project back on track. Great Grilling!!!

On a related note regarding the Coleman grills, does anyone have a problem with pressure when coming directly off the tanks (with adapter)? I noticed on this past weekend, with our Roadtrip grill, when I turn on the 2nd burner and turn it right up, the flame on the 1st burner goes down quite a bit. Not really sure why this would happen? Just had the tanks filled so it's not because the tanks are low.

myredracer, On my previous trailer I used to connect directly to the 30# tank and did not have any problems with pressure. Unfortunately, I do not know what would cause this.
