Crusader Back Rack(Bike) Opinions...

I have read several of the threads about bike racks. I really do not what to beat a dead horse but did not find much information on something like the system below...

Any Crusader owners or lighter weight 5'er owners add one of these to the back?? I am not really looking to carry anything but a few bikes and I'd rather stay away from the hitch mount style. The dealer and so on has said of course that if I did add the hitch style that if something got damaged because of it that it would not be covered...said the same for the ladder style...Well I need to ask about this style...this is a lippert component added onto a lippert frame...I have emailed lippert but still no response...

This gets welded to the frame extensions before the bumper so it should be pretty secure...anyone add one good or bad??

Thanks!

We have one like this on our Chaparral 29RKS. It has a sticker that it has a 450# weight limit.I have a aluminum tool box and carry our small genny on it.works great as we have pulled the unit over 15,000 miles so far with no problems at all. I highly recommend it.

When we purchased our Sanibel, I inquired about having a hitch installed by the dealer before picking it up. They called Prime Time and were told that anything added to or welded to any part of the Lippert frame, must be approved by Lippert and the welding must be performed by a "Lippert certified welder" or the frame warranty would be void.

I agree. It is a Lippert accessory but, Lippert must also weld it on.

Correct it is a lippert part...figured they couldn't argue with it if I had my "dealer" weld it on...waiting for them to respond back...

My dealer wouldn't even entertain installing the hitch once they heard Lippert must do all the work/welding etc.

I had one on my Sabre factory as stated 450# weight limit.
I'm putting one on my new Columbus, it's bolt on brackets not weld on.

I have one on my Columbus as well. Like Turbs stated, they are bolt on, not welded. They bolt onto the bumper extensions which are welded to the frame. The rack is very stout. I normally carry 4 bikes on it, have also carried my smoker on it.

I don't think I would add one on our Crusader's. Bolt on or weld on. There are other options to carry bikes.

I have pictures, and if your bumper extension is like mine you'll be fine.

What options are you talking about?...

Turbs are those the brackets that came with it? I don't have as much room as you but I'll have to double check and I am pretty sure there is enough for the bolt on...

I feel like this might be a good option for us...waiting to see what newfie's other ideas are...

Never thought carrying bikes on a camper would be such an ordeal...but thanks everyone for the input so far...

We have a 2013 Rockwood 2608 ws ultra lite TT and. I had a length of angle iron welded across the top and back of bumper and frame to beef it up and added a bolt on hitch with a cargo carrier for our electric bikes and have traveled for a couple of years and have not had any problems of any kind. Good luck

I guess your selection depends on how many bikes you have. We take 2, 26" Diamondback Mt. Bikes on our trips. They go in the "basement" or pass through storage on our Crusader 320 RLT. Front wheels have easy, quick disconnect and seats come off. Plenty of room in there for the bikes and everything else we want, or at least has been so far. The crunch will come when I try to add my 17' Grumman canoe to the mix.

Interesting...never really thought about that. We will have 2 or 3 bikes. With my rig I am not sure if the basement is big enough, but I will sure scope it out.

modification to the upright

We've had this on our TT and our 5th. The upright post to hold the bikes is a bit of a problem as it rubs the bike frame and takes off the paint. To correct that I purchased a rack from Walmart that was designed for a 2" receiver hitch. It turns out that the outer tube fits perfectly over the upright piece. I cut the upright a little shorter so that my wheels would fit down in the platform.
