Electric Jack on 318BHS LaCrosse TEd died
On our trip this past weekend, my electric tongue jack on our 318BHS TEd seems to have bitten the dust.
It will work barely if I help it out with a drill on the manual override nut on top. It always seems to struggle otherwise even with no load on it.
With any load up or down, it will not work at all..
I emailed Brandon, and look forward to his reply.

What kind is it? Mine has worked great thus far? It there an electrical problem? Is there any difference when the trailer is plugged in?

Does it have a fuse or relay? After going through 8 spare fuses the dealership replaced and upgraded the electric tongue jack. Of course the guy went through 3 fuses within minutes while disconnecting the TT. No problem since replacement.

It is the one that came with the touring edition. I believe its a Lippert Jack. (LPI Sticker) No difference if plugged into the tow vehicle or shore power, or any combination of these.
Battery is charged and I have checked it with a hydrometer and load tested it.
Does have a fuse. Fuse is good. Tried a different on just in case. The worklight on the jack works fine at all times, even when the jack will not move.
I have gone back and checked all connections and they are tight and clean. I have also checked the switch inside the jack for clean and tight connections, also good.
Thanks for the help!
John

foxhead, I had a very similar problem with our power jack and it was the fuse holder wasn't making good enough contact for the jack to work. Just like in your case the light worked but there was little or no lifting power. A little crimping on the fuse holder to make sure it was making good contact with the fuse blades solved the problem. Check that.

foxhead, I'm glad to see your problem has been resolved. I, like you, am glad I decided on a Forest River product.
Recently our furnace went out in our Rockwood trailer and FR had it replaced with a new unit. Mind you, it would have been perfectly within their discretion to have the unit tested/troubleshooted/sent-to-factory, etc but instead they had a new unit installed. Period. This wasn't an isolated experience, there are many others that can attest to have been treated the same way by FR.
Again, I join you and Mr. RV Guy in toasting our FR purchase!
Welcome to the Forest River Owners Forum!

I just have to ask the obvious. WHy didn't you go to your dealer and let them handle your problem?

With the level of customer service that Prime Time exhibits and the willingness that they show to work directly with their customers, why go through the dealer when it's something that can be taken care of yourself, especially if it's something you can handle. This saves having to hook up your unit, tow to the dealer (sometimes a great distance), wait or leave it then, go back and get it.

Just in case anyone else has a Lippert, something similar happened with mine, which is the 3,500 pound model. It slowed down as if a battery problem, but the battery checked out fine. When it finally died altogether, the service people determined that the motor was bad. Only used 4 or 5 times. I switched to a Barker, and no problems so far.

To be completely honest, I would never, ever, step foot in my dealer's showroom/service/parts areas ever again, even though they are only 15 minutes down the road. (McGeorge RV)
If it were not for Prime Time and their excellent customer service, I would have to go to another dealer almost 2 hours away.
I have a bad jack. I can install a jack, I talked with Brandon, he's sending me the jack.
Seems like a win-win for me.

It has worked great. I would not want an Equalizer hitch without it! Very strong. The youtube clip about is accurate. It would definately pick my
Titan's rearend off the ground if I did not stop.

I got the replacement installed yesterday.
The new jack is a Lippert tongue jack just like the original. However, the new one is much, much quieter and seems to operate much more smoothly than the old one ever did.
So far, so good. I am a happy camper! (pun intended)
