Bob, that link that f1100turbo posted is a pretty good explanation. Basically on a full floating rear axle, the hub assembly and axle assembly take all of the weight of the truck. You can actually pull the axle out of the axle housing, and the truck will still roll down the road....without power of course. That is the type of configuration that is in the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups, all of the way to tractor trailer drive wheels.

With a semi-floating rear axle, the axle is bearing the weight. If you pull the axle out of the housing, the hub assemble comes with it.

In most cases, a full floating rear axle can carry much more weight than a semi-floating axle.

And that's exactly what they did. Dealer said there was nothing wrong with it. Buy the way that was highway driving round trip of 100 km with about 5 km of city driving. If you don't like what I'm staighting please don't send private rude messages swearing at me . Yes I'm not a ford fan but just letting you know what I have been told. No it's not first hand but I'm sure no one wants first hand experience with something that is going to be bad . Would you ? If you want milleage I have herd the non turbo does get over 28mpg and is very consistent at it. But that's not what we are talking about. You can goto the ford forums and look up the Eco boost and there are a lot of people worried about what these trucks will do in hot conditions while pulling heavy loads

No big deal just trying to help people make an educated decision based on personal experience. Yes they have hops of power I'm just not sure they are going to last. But whatever they buy im sure it will help them make the memories they want

OK folks, I am just getting tuned into this thread.

This is NOT a "truck" forum. There are plenty around.
You guys can pick one and go bash yourselves silly over there.

He said; she said does not belong here and only creates problems.
Gas mileage and who drives at what speeds is very subjective.

Tow ratings are empirical.
Estimated MPG is meaningless unless you are on a dynamometer.
Actual MPG is lied about more often than, well ....
anything else on the board.

Tone it down or the thread will close.
