I just wanna see how the turbos last after being at full boost on a hot day pulling and then getting shut down I smell disaster. This coming from a diesel mechanic. But I'm sure some of you will differ

Also rember that ya gotta stop all that weight. I'm a mechanic by trade and you would not believe the things people will do to machinery........Better to have too much truck rather than not enough....

I've been thinking the same thing and I'm not even close to being mechanically minded. That turbo roaring all the time while towing, somethings gonna give. The truck may have the towing capacity, but I'm still skeptical about the powerplant.

Me too!

A 6 cylinder that is only 3 point 5 liters in capacity has got to be too small to tow around anything other than some baby diapers and a tootsie roll!

Gimmie a break!

The F150 ecoboost is a great setup and is nothing but extraordinary when it comes to towing.

Every truck has its limits, but this thing is amazing and tows with the greatest of confidence.

The brakes on the camper stop the camper...if you think otherwise try turning off your brake controller and try to stop with your camper on a downhill grade.

The truck's brakes are designed with their GVWR in mind, not what it may ever tow behind it.

If I compare my current TV to the Ram 1500 I used to tow with, no question the F250 has bigger brakes. That's because it weighs 1800 lbs more than the Ram 1500. I needn't have say which of the two has the better brake performance.

Holy smokes! That must be a super duper F150.

I have not seen that truck in any of the literature.

For those who doubt the ecoboost's reliability under tough conditions.

However good questions about the brakes though....

Water cooled and oil cooled; I'm not worried. And they have anti-coking technology after engine shutdown.

Would it be any worse than a turbo diesel at full boost and then shut down? People get wound up about the turbo's on a gas engine. But diesels have been turbo'd for years; how many turbo failures do you hear about?

I really don't think it is a problem.

What is a full floating axle? I've heard the term but never understood it.

I really like the fact of getting 20 + mpg ...From a 2012 Eco Boost HD F150...When NOT towing.. I have been seeing reports of 11.5 mpg while towing a 6,000 lb TT..And thats a combined number from speeds anywhere from 55 to 70 mph....winds..and no winds...this summer ..should be a good test for those HD F 150s out there..Will the turbos last ?? ....Stay tuned

Here is a link to the payload packages for the different F150 configurations.
3120 lbs is the max.

This is the main point that is pulling me for the Ecoboost, gas mileage when not towing. I also have to admit, I was very skeptical of a 6 cylinder 3.5 pulling 9-10,000 lbs. I realize now that technology is way ahead of my older ways of thinking. If there were serious problems with this engine we'd be hearing about them. The engine is clearly proving itself.

Well gas mileage sucks rated at 28 I know of 5 owners .it ranges from 13-22 on the highway that's miles per gallon not towing anything. No consistency what so ever . Yes lots of power but would you buy an engine that is pushed to the max all the time I think the long term of these things might not be good. You can even go onto the ford forums and that's what they are all worried about. But I'm not a great ford fan either

If..somebody drives with a lead foot... they will only get 13 mpg..i know of people driving at 60mph getting 25 + mpg with a Eco Boost..

I keep hearing people say that they won't last because they are being pushed to the max. My camper weighs about 6500lbs and when I'm on the highway with my ecoboost it runs 65 mph at about 1900 rpm's. With the 6 speed transmission on these new fords it makes the ecoboost perform better to get up to speed I never go over 3000 rpm's. That's the beauty of the low end torque. You can not knock these motors until you have pulled with them. Doesn't matter what you hear somebody say. As far as mpg, I get exactly what the EPA said I would. If I drive really easy I can get more.

If... your 2012 HD F150 would be used 80% of the time as a dailey driver ..wanting better mpgs is understandable...BUT ..make sure the truck you "build" is 100% capable (use Fords "build and Price" tool on-line )and include the safety margin..or look at a F250.. good luck

Thanks for sending this along. That is amazing capability from a 1/2 ton truck.

I stand corrected.

And just like I said I know people getting 13mpg as well as 25+ but it is inconsistent everyone around that talk to people about it say this. A friends wife has the one getting 13 and I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a lead foot
