Generator on bumper?
We are taking a long trip next year. We will need a generator because we will be dry camping. Can we mount a carrier on our bumper to carry a generator? The one we are looking at weights about 119 lbs. Several companies make an attachment that hooks around your bumper and it has a hitch receiver that you attach the carrier to. Will the bumper support that kind of weight? We have the tracer 2800rld. I would welcome RV guys input. Thanks in advance. Bob

man thats a future istic model re your signature ! 2102 tracer 2800rld !
Any way your bumper wont support much more than your spare tire .
check with your dealer or the factory but doing what you've asked will most likely void the warranty !

No, you will rip the bumper right off the frame.
The only way to carry anything at the back is to fabricate a subframe that attaches securely to the frame, and distributes the weight forward from the very rear. Unfortunately, that will void your frame warranty, not that the warranty is worth much anyway!

I spent a small fortune (ok a few hundred bucks) building a home for our generator and mounting it on a 500 pound rated aluminum framework with steel supports that went back to the frame. I was so proud!
When I went to put the "blue boy" on the rack I made, I almost freaked out that the bumper end caps popped off right in the driveway.
The bumper was twisting right off the frame welds
Generator Mount - FAIL
Took photos and spent the next weekend taking it all apart.
Everything lives in the truck now.
Not all "mods" work out.

Technically putting a rack on your bumper will void your frame warranty.

Warranties be damned..!! Frame warranties are like sledge hammer warranties. If it broke, YOU must have done something wrong, not us..!! Mounting your genny at the rear makes sense and can be accomplished. I did the mod on my last 5th wheel and it worked fine. I am a certified weldor and did the mod myself. First brace the square tube bumper with 3"X3"X1/4" (minimum) angle from frame rail to frame rail. Then gussett this angle brace to each of the main frame rails with at least 12" gussetts with 100% weld. Add a crossmember forward of the bumper between the main frame rails. Then mount a universal receiver hitch to this beefed bumper and new cross member. Then use a cargo platform (HitchHaul) made for receiver hitches to place generator, some leveling blocks, etc. Any competent welding shop should be able to do this for you. Check GVW ratings and present weight to be sure you stay within reasonable maximums. Wish I had pics of my mod for you but I don't.

SWEET, congrats on the new ride! I am pulling mine with an 04 2500 w/4.10's and a 6.0 gasser. I had full dual exhaust, cold air intake and custom tuning. Pulls great.
