Generator Question

Hi All,

I have a 318BHW with a 50 amp service. I have 2 Yamaha EF2000iS generators. I recently tried to run on of my 2 AC's using the generator but the system kept shutting off. I wasn't running anything else in the trailer (but the microwave clock turned off) - the Microwave was not running...

Am i missing something?? From reading the various forums it seems like the generators running together should power one AC and not anything else?

thanks and best regards,

c

You were almost certainly running the converter (battery charger) which could have been a significant load unless the generator had been running a long time before trying the AC.

Are you sure the water heater electric element was off? How about the fridge? It it was on the "Auto" setting, it would have switched to 120v when the generator came on.

Is the AC you tried 15k or 13.5k?

Thanks Barry,

As you can tell i'm pretty much an idiot.

The Fridge very well may have been on Auto. I'm positive the water heater was off.

As to which AC, is there a way to tall which the 15k and which is the 13.5k?

So the battery has to be completely charged... it was dead. Whenever i leave the trailer it dies...

Again thank you very much.

If your battery has been discharged completely a number of times, it is probably no good and needs replaced. AND disconnecting when not being used would be better for the battery. If you are running your AC you can flip off the converter breaker to prevent it from using power

if you have the 50amp and it came with the dual ac you prob have the 15k units...

2 2000i Hondas paralled would not start either of mine.....and that was with all the breakers in the panel off...

actually I take that back....they did start and run it a couple of times....but upon cycling they could not get the compressor going again...

I have a couple of the soft start capacitors, but have yet to install them....im hoping they will do the trick....my champion frameless NON INVERTER genny will run the ac fine...but its louder...

keep us (ME)_posted on what you figure out.....

The hard start capacitors only work if your model does not already have them.
My Coleman Mach III already had a large compressor capacitor and the additional one did not significantly reduce the start up amps.

What DID work was the fan delay relay.

Yes, mine are dometic units...I have yet to mess wirh them and even see.if I can use the soft start caps....I have them in any case......I also may consider the fan delay but my stat is a digital unit...so it may (or may not) be more difficult...guess I need to quit thinking so much n get to doing...lol
