I think the grey water system can create lots of odor if you are not careful with it's use. Once, after our RV was left stored in hot weather we opened it up and got hit with a powerful smell. I think it was from the grey water system because the black water tank was deodorized. We are always careful not to allow much food scraps down the drain and I would expect the sink traps to keep any odor in the tank. So I am thinking that, perhaps, we did not make sure the kitchen sink trap was thoroughly washed down the last time we finished cooking. So we ran enough water down the sink to clear the trap, the smell finally went away. I also have been using some grey water deodorizer lately when I store the rig. They sell it in Walmart.

As for odor when dumping the grey water, frequently I find that campground septic tanks spew out odor as soon RV the drain valves are open. I think it might be because the in-flowing liquids force gases from the septic tank back out into the air.

Next time you go out fill the tank about 1/2 and add laundry soap or Dawn dish soap. It will agitate and clean the tank. Then dump it.

I do this a couple times a year, pour in Pine Sol or other cleaner, add about 10 gal of water before leaving , and dump when at destination
