Has anybody upgraded their axles?

I have a 2010 tracer 3000bhs with has 3500 lb axles, in Nov. we took a trip to Florida with new tires, by the time we made Georga the inside of my tires were down to the steel belts. When I looked i could see my back axle slightly bent, i'm going to replace with 6000lb axles, the question i have will this change my hub face distance which is 86.5" because i am going from a 14" wheel to a 15" wheel which will be a little wider tire also a little taller! The height i think will be a wash being my axle tube will be going from 2 3/8 to 3", I have over slung axles! Does anybody with 15" tires on there tracer or lacrosse know there hub face distance, I talked with lippert they said new axles should fit with no problems, I just want to be sure i don't run into any unforeseen problems before I order them!

Thats a 6000 lbs camper with a max weight with cargo of 1700 lbs. = 7700 lbs
I cant answer your question about the 6000 lbs axles. But I can say I have the 4400 lbs axles on my lacrosse (8500 lbs) . Think they would fit fine as we both have nearly the same unit. 6000 lbs axles could be overkill for the tracer, but could be nice to have.
Would think dexter would know the hub face spec on both axles.
Have you ever weighed that tracer loaded?

Glad you didnt have a blow-out going down the road.

Was your rear axle bent up or down. The axle should have a bend to it when not under load.

It should have a bend in it regardless of load.

I talked to Lippert, they discontinued the 4400lb axles and are offering 5200lb axles at a cost of 661.50 each plus shipping! The company i'm going with sells al-ko axles. I can get 4400lbs for $378. plus shipping and the 6000lb for $430 with 1/4" tubes, thats the only reason i was going with that sized. My front axle has a slight camber up, my back axle is going down! front tires were fine rear worn bad on inside!

Your back axle should be up also that is why your tires are worn out.

It is possible the rear axle is upside down. Is the camber just going the opposite way of the front? Thats a lot of expense to incur...

I upgraded mine a couple of years ago. Best money I ever spent on the trailer!

Talk to the folks at Dexter Axle, they are very helpful and may just have the best price.

Here is a link to my post on the upgrade.

Ive had them come in upside down before...just pull em' and weld some new perch pads. Maybe if your going to baja or the al-can highway...otherwise.... The rest of your chassis is still the lighter rating.

No i wish that was the problem, you can see the bent axle, my tires look pigeon toed, both lean in on top, this has gotten worse every year! I have wide track system the axles are wider apart and I think this puts uneven or more weight on my back axle! Thanks for the information John I will look into Dexter, i'm glad to hear it was worth the money!

WJC are the prices that they quoted complete axles less wheels or just tubes and spindles?

Ha Scott, that price was for everything but wheels and shipping! the company is axle inc. Ask for Karen she is very helpful, she will answer any question you have.

Seems like a pretty good deal for a complete axle considering new brakes bearings and drums. Freight may be a killer but would be same regardless.
Thanks
Scott
