Laura- I'm too germophobic (surprisingly- given that I don't use gloves for any of my sewer antics) to use my fresh water hose on my black tank flush. I know there are back flow preventers in-place, I still use a separate green hose for that flush.

As well, with a clear elbow at the sewer outlet, I've found that it takes 2 or 3 good emptyings in a row before I stop seeing a poop-show. I usually empty my black, close the valve, then run 4-6 minutes of water via the flush into the black tank and the empty that- repeating as necessary until I stop seeing brown come through.
