Hot water heater smoking

Anyone have a suggestion to stop my hot water heater from smoking? I walked around back of my TT this morning and have black smoke marks all over the camper above hit water heater and I noticed it is putting out black smoke. I do not see any debris in the burner tube. Anyone else had this problem? How do I fix?

Incomplete combustion.....partially clogged air mixer or orfice. How does the flame look????Big, blue and Bushy or lean and yellow???

You could also have low fuel pressure....Switch tanks and see if it improves.

Something in the gas/air inlet tube going to the combustion chamber.

Open the door and look in the tube where the gas goes into the combustion chamber. There should be an opening where the tube connects to the gas nozzle on the left. The tube should be completely clear of everything.

Update on this. It seems to be getting worse and the cause sea to be that the flame is getting bigger and bigger it is shooting all the way through he time and out the vent. Any ideas what I can do? The LP pressure seems to be fine it has not caused an issue with anything else. We have used he heat (due to a 9 month old) and the stove.

Shut the gas side of the wh OFF and only use the electric. It appears the gas valve is shot!

Needless to say, you're playing with fire and could set the trailer on fire.

Thanks OC. I am afraid for me that means shut the hot water down because I do not think I have electric and an option. But would rather have no hot water than a pile of ash for a TT.
