I totally agree, and I hope I had worded my post so it did not sound negative as I really do like the PT units. Our wants were rear living room, bathroom that split the trailer in half, bedroom slide for the bed and seperate entrance to the bedroom. Those are pretty generic requests as alot of brands have a unit that fits that description and hence I mentioned it here so maybe the PT guys will see it and give some thought to a floor plan like that.

I would think in today's market and economy that the trailer companies would be focusing on units that can be pulled by the 1/2 ton trucks and large SUVs. Most of us can't afford a larger truck (and fuel) and a new trailer. Keep adding all those slides and the weight just keeps going up and up and then you limit your market. We would have loved a bedroom that was larger as well, but we compromised and traded in for a larger living area with the 305RES. As mentioned, no trailer will meet all your needs or wants, but there is one that will meet most. And once you buy...next week you see another one that you oohh and ahhh over again....I learned to stop looking once we bought....or my husband would throw this darn computer out! We were fortunate to find a trailer we loved and it just happen to be a in the dealer showroom and had the touring edition as well.

Humm, I am going to try and not sound sarcastic here as all I wanted to do was offer a suggestion for a floor plan. Just so you know, we have a 34 foot V-Lite that meets all those things and has a GVWR of 8720lbs. Most of the Lacrosse units easily exceed the weight of our V-Lite and are just as long. So to sum things up, your 305RES is longer by 5 inches, weighs more, and assuming the floor plan is correct has 2 slides as well, has a GVWR of almost 9500lbs and yet somehow you think a trailer like ours that has all the things I mentioned is too big?

Not at all. You misunderstood my intent. I am simply saying that as more slides are added to units they weigh more and I would think that right now with the economy, manufacturers would be looking at producing units that are more geared at those that have the smaller trucks and suv's. I know our unit is big and I know it weighs alot (I remind my husband of that all the time).

And, although the newer 1/2 ton trucks are being manufatured with higher GVWR than older 1/2 tons (mostly due to better technology in engine and suspension design). Those of us with older 1/2 tons (and can't afford a newer one at the same time), need to find a TT large enough and comfortable enough that their current TV will handle. In my case, my 2002 Chev. 1500HD (emphasis on the "HD") still only has a GVWR of 8600 lbs. Todays newer "regular" 1/2 tons, are rated at more than that in some cases. I think the vehicle manufacturers are responding to the upswing in the RV world and making tow vehicles accordingly. With my Lacrosse 303 RKS at a dry weight of 7097, and loaded up with gear etc., I am probably at or slightly over my trucks GVWR. And, then once in a while I will load our 800 lb golf cart into the bed. Although the suspension seems to hold the weight well (no squatting), the 6.0 gas engine and 3.55 or 3.73 gear ratio is probably why it has a 8600 lb GVWR.

It has nothing to do with the suspension, it all about your brake capabilities. The trucks have to be able to stop the weight if the secondary system ( your trailer ) fails.

I think the 318BHS should be named the bunkhouse model of the year! I looked at one a couple of times and if we had young kids it would be at the top of our list. Very nice floorplan.
