RV Travel.com does NOT recommend putting screens over these openings. They say it can cause trouble by restricting air flow to your appliances. They recommend covering the openings when your RV is not in use and uncovering when you use it. These people are the experts so I am going with their advice.

Whatever you do, do not take that as gospel in any way, shape or form. They are knowledgeable, but often not expert at all just experienced. I would bet you find significantly more experience in this forum than most of those who write for them, and expertise that is easily adapted to solving problems with any system in an RV. Don't take that as me bashing them, but encouraging you to take things with a grain of salt.
That said, it is nothing more than a relatively basic calculation to figure out the percentage of flow reduction versus percentage open area of a screening mesh. Done properly, your delta in efficiency in pretty finite.
I'll personally take that small loss over ever having stink bugs cook off in my furnace EVER again!

OK but the majority of folks here many who have been camping for many years DO cover them with no problems.
In fact there have been several here who had major problems with bugs
but I've never heard from one who had a problem with the screens so you
make the call.

Do you have the URL of the article where they recommend that RVers do NOT use bug screens? I'd like to study their recommendations.

I have covered mine like this starting back in 1976 and have not had a refrigerator or water heater malfunction of any kind on 9 different campers. I also put dual fans on the back of the refrigerator and can guarantee I get more air across the back of any non-screened refrigerator vent door. JMHO

I have always had my openings covered with bug screens and never had a problem with any appliance. I have seen on may camping trips insects looking for a way into these areas. I don't know that Not covering these areas is good advice.

I will continue covering the openings in the water heater door and the refrigerator access door with alum screen wire as I've been doing for years, regardless of what RV Travel.com says. IMO, they are "Out to lunch"

I have looked at rvtravel videos and they provide information. Like this forum an individual has to decide what to believe and what not. I have seen some good and bad in both places. FRF, this place, posters have no money to make with their comments or help offered. In the case of rvtravel this is a business making money. There is a wealth of information here, I hope I can help someone too with a problem.

Took the cover off and cleaned the surface with acetone, cut the screen wire to fit from the compressor compartment to the condenser and used alum tape to hold the screen wire. Then covered the compressor compartment and condenser with the alum bubble insulation like Herk did. Also covered the inside of the cover with the alum bubble insulation and taped it in place with the alum tape.
