Inverter Fan Spinning on and off all night
Anyone know why my fan on my inverter and fuse panel sound like a gas weed whacker spinning up and down all night long and I have nothing running to cause it to do that, I am hooked up to the campgrounds 30 amp and my AC is working fine?

Inverter or converter?? I know the converter fan will spin up when the unit gets hot from using DC voltage(most converters also charge house batteries)I would take a temp reading or feel how Hot it is... If its cool then I would lean toward a bad thermal switch in the unit ...good luck

Mine does a high pitched whine/buzz off and on. It usually stops but I never know how long it will run. It is obnoxious. If I could figure out the fix, I'd do it.
In my googling about, it can be the fan, but it can also be the converter "singing". If you google "rv converter singing" you will see some results. Some people talk about tightening up wiring and other things to make it go away. Others talk about the manufacturer sending out a new unit to have it sing in a different way.
My dealer said "they all do it" and thinks that should be ok with me.

The converter fan runs anytime it is producing DC current from the AC provided by the campground. Your refrigerator, furnace, and water heater all have DC control power even though they use AC for the main power. The DC control power allows these appliances to also operate on propane when shore power is not available. I don't know why your converter fan is so loud - that's a question for a dealer (and not the one that told you they all do it). They all run, they don't all run loud.

Mine spins up if I turn on lights....(use dc power)..then stops when I turn them off...I would turn the main breaker off and use a toothpick to turn the fan by hand to see if it turn normally.

I have a Shasta 2912 mfg in May or 2011 but does anyone know where you can buy these brake safety switches? Do I have to get one from my dealer?

Good find....that's what happens when they use the house battery for the brakes instead of a single little battery on a seperate system. We call them breakaway switchs. It's pretty common if you u can find any body who sells trailers. Every one with electric brakes has to have one.DOT law.

I have heard the fan in ours but when I installed our PI monitor I added a vent to the side of my cabinet, approx. 8x12ish. Not sure if it just allowed enough air to circulate through my cabinet but I haven't heard ours since.

Ok so melted Emergency Brakeaway switch replaced, turned on all 12 volt lights when connected to 120 at my house, then turned them off and guess what High Pitched Fan Noise is gone, seems the melted switch was causing the converter to run all the time and saved myself $200 between tolls, fuel and dealers one hour of labor to replace it. I just hope that is all that happens before the big trip in 1.5 weeks.

Any auto parts supply can order/have. Tractor supply or a trailer supply house.
