Need Truck advice

Hi everyone,
I realize this is not a truck forum, but I am thinking about purchasing a new truck. I have a 2001 Chevy 3500 with a 6.0 gas that runs great, but it is going 140k and pulling my crusader 298 BHD is worrying me that I maybe pushing my luck. I’m looking at a 2009 F-450 King Ranch with a 6.4 Diesel engine (what a beautiful truck) , but I was wondering if this was a problematic engine. I guess what is worrying me is I have had a diesel before and it was a nightmare and couldn’t wait to get rid of it ( 2002 Duramax). I put injectors every 40k and replaced the injector pump twice. After that, I swore I would never get another diesel again. However, pulling a 5th wheel with a gas engine you never seem to miss a gas station, and I really miss the pulling power.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have any luck either way with the 6.4 Ford ? I guess I’m really scared getting back into a Diesel truck.

The 6.4 has not been problematic....it is just very thirsty...... My brother has that same truck. Gets 8.5 towing his 13000 pound Cardianl 5th. You may want to consider a new 250 with the 6.7....running excellent incentives you may get into a Lariat or XLT for the little more than the 450 King Ranch. 400hp and 800 ft.lb. of torque will cerainly pull your 298. I heard nothing but good things about this truck....People at campgrounds all love them and love the increased fuel mileage while running empty or towing.

My friend had a 6.4 diesel, and the dealer he bought it from told him to get rid of it, as there is an emerging problem with those engines. Even so, they are much better than the Duramax.

Take a look at the www.ford-trucks.com forum for an in depth look at just about every ford truck ever made. Looks of good info there. Both positive and negative.

The '11 Ford 6.7 in the pickup is only 390 HP and 735 tq. The CC is 300 hp and 660 tq.

Ford has made it official: beginning with next week's production, the 6.7-liter PowerStroke turbo diesel in the 2011 Ford Super Duty pickup will be upgraded to 400 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque. That's a bump of 10 hp and a jump of 65 lb-ft, enough to leapfrog General Motors' 6.6-liter Duramax by 3 hp and 35 lb-ft. Or, to put more bluntly, enough to run over the Duramax on its way to the top of the heavy duty engine heap.

Further, at the end of August, the Super Duty's frame will be strengthened, upping its payload rating by 550 pounds (to 7,070), which will also increase its fifth-wheel tow rating by 1,000 pounds to 22,600.

Although not much can be done for your tow rating if you bought a Super Duty as soon as it hit the showroom, you can get the power upgrade from your suddenly feeble 635 torques. For one year starting on August 31, 2010, will be able to take their pickups into Ford dealers and get their engines tweaked to the new standard. Since there's no hardware involved, Ford says it should take just 20 minutes to get the reflash job done – learn more with the official press release after the jump.

They are upgraded now and are pretty darn good.

I will stick with my '05 5.9.

I want to thank everone for their feed back. I think we will shy away from the 6.4 as i see somethings that just don't make me feel comfortable ( thanks for the Ford web site ibrjet). I cant believe that they are removing the cab to servise the turbo? Also seems they have some coolant leaks. I think I will hold off until spring to see what the 6.7 turns out to be, and look at the f-250 also.Alltough, I have always leaned towards a 3500 because of the extra wheels on the pavement with a taller 5th wheel. What caught our eye with the F-450 we looked at was the price. They were asking 41k and the truck was loaded up with a crew cab with 31k on it for miles. Now, its alot of truck, but we would only use the truck for pulling the 5th wheel and going to Homedeopt. Other than that it would sit in the back yard, so fuel mileage not towing wouldn't be an issue. It funny read the Ford forum, it looked all to famiure, I gues their is good ones and ones with issues with anything. I want to thank everyone again for the feedback, and eventhough I still don't know what is a good truck to buy, at least I didnt buy one with problems.

The new 6.7 has been great so far from what I've read. There is a known problem with the tranny cooler failing but ford is remedying the situation. All the new diesels from 2008 and up have shown lower fuel mileage due to all the new emissions equipment. I'm staying diesel. Can't beat the pulling power.

I never got mine dyno tested so I will have to take Ford's word for the 400 Horses and 800 Foot lb of Torque after the reprogram. The only thing I know is it plays with the Crusader and delivers a consistant 12 to 13 MPG on a hilly Pennsylvania Interstate (81) at 67 MPH.
