New Wheels and Tires, with pictures!

While going through my hub debacle, I realized how lightweight the tires looked and felt.. And with my upcoming trip to Disney World, and the long drive involved, I just was not comfortable with the current tires.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought new wheels and tires. I had to buy wheels, because I upgraded to a 16" tire/wheel. I am now running LT225/75/16E tires. I also bought the most heavy duty LT, yes, LT tire I could find. I did not want an ST tire ever again, after reading the horror stories and the minimal DOT testing for them.

The wheel is a 16x7 Hi-Spec Black series 06 Aluminum wheel rated for 3200lbs and 85psi. The Bridgestone R250, is a severe commercial duty tire. It is beyond heavy duty and the pictures do not do it justice.

Duravis R250: Bridgestone Tires

The difference is unbelievable. I went from a 28lbs tire, to a 51lbs tire (just the tire) The construction of the new tire is amazing, and IMO worth every penny.

Again, I didn't want to spend the money, but my family and our safety is worth it. Changing a tire on the side of I-95 is not my idea of safe, nor fun. Plus I didn't need a hole in the floor or worse, damage to the trailer if they were to come apart.

I have only two pics because it was getting dark. And, I was only able to install 3 of them, because I am waiting on my hub to come in..

See the pics below..

I'll bet you won't have to worry about those. Looks good. Did your overtall diameter change much?

Overall diameter changed 0.9". There were no issues with fitment..

On my aluminum wheels, the lug nuts are in counterbores. If yours are the same, make sure your lug wrench will fit in the counterbores as I had to grind the O. D. of the lug wrench to make it fit. WEayne

Good thinking. I will check that for sure now..

I did have to use a standard, non-impact socket ...

Thanks!

Great looking wheels and tires. Now you have me thinking about spending more money. I need your address so I know where to send my wife when she finds out what you have done

John those look sharp.
Not to be a downer but please be aware that increasing the un-sprung weight at the trailer axles may cause a decrease in braking strength for the trailer - Unsprung mass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - should be of no consequence as long as you adjust your trailer brake controller

Thanks. I figured it would be different. My plan is a test run before the trip to adjust for the new wheels/tires.

Thanks sincerely for the advice.

Those wheels are sharp. Remind me of aftermarket truck wheels. How much did the rubber set you back if you don't mind me asking?

I shopped around, but ended up at a friend's local tire shop. They were expensive, but I wanted the best, so I wouldn't have to worry.

Now sit down....

They were right at 200 a tire. My wallet still is burning, but I am no longer worried each time I go out waiting on a blowout ...

That looks really good, and trustme, between myself and my father in-law we have have our fair share trailer damage due to "trailer tire" blowouts.

Question: I really like the 15" wheels that came on mine, are the LT tires available in 15" wheel size, seems like everything is p-metrics.

and,

are those "D" or "E" rated on the loading.

Unfortunately, after extensive research, I could not find a tire that would be any better than what I had in a 15" size. That is why I had to upgrade the wheels too. I like my OEM aluminum wheels, but no tire could come close to these in a 15".

They are E rated.

foxhead love the tires, I know it's a bit to ask but if you could drop a line after 2-3 years as to how the tires are still doing, and what mileage you've put on them it's be great to kown this too.

Thanks Foxhead, a quick run thru the manufacturers and all I could locate is a 6ply C rated tire for a 15" wheel, not sure thats any better.

Not in my opinion... that's why I went to a 16" wheel. It really opened up the options.
