You could also install the newer round light that does not hand down and mounted a lot closer to the ceiling. Later RJD

So the 90 degree angle is enough to make a difference? I had pondered on the idea, but didn't go through with it.
Sitting in my recliner directly across from the light and table I can now see how that would work. If the light fixture gets hit many more times the one light is going to break loose from the base after being bent back into place do many times.

Just might have to do that. I've had to replace the cheap bathroom sink faucet, buy all sorts of metal racks for shelving in all the cabinets, that I just would hate to change out such a bright and attractive LED light fixture.
