Picking up PT Crusader 294RLT

Morning Everyone.
The wife and I are finally picking up our new 294 tomorrow. We have been waiting since October when we ordered it.

Great information on this site. Just wanted to ask, while doing the walk through tomorrow besides the couch (Read a lot about that) is there anything else I should key in on that are possible known issues with PT?? I have read about a few here and there.

The dealer is providing me with (at my request) a list of "repairs" they needed to complete after the unit arrived from the factory. Honestly I haven't heard if there were any but I asked for one anyway so I can double check the work.

First 5er...upgrading from a hybrid, lots of trips already planned...

Thanks!!

Make sure you have them fill all tanks to the top. Fresh, black and gray. My unit has a bad fresh water tank. Check all outlets lights AC, fridge microwave TV sound bar DVD player, water pump. Look at roof, underneath. All panels. Check everything before you sign and pay. Spend at least 2 hours going thur the unit before you sign. Once you buy you are in the que for warranty service and it is a slow que. Make sure it is repaired before you sign, do not sign and pay unless it is good. There are many PDI checklist online that are helpful. It is easy to get excited and want to take the unit home with an agreement that they will repair items later. Do not do this.

we did just about everything during or walkthrough on our delivery. From filling the tanks, checking the plumbing, stoves, oven, etc. to having them put a hose to it so I can check for leaks with the slides out and in. It took use about 2 hours and then we signed the papers when we were done.

New PT

Look at your tires. All 4 of mine had to be warranted within 400 miles of ownership, but that is not knowing what the treatment was during delivery from Indiana to Arizona. Find out who is doing the warranty on your tires and write it down someplace. Slide outs-8 trips to the dealer, and they still are not quite right. They have ordered parts, and I await yet another trip to them. Also, does your newer unit have protectors under the slides? earlier PT units did not, and many needed to have runners installed underneath. The Darco wrap underneath would wear, tear, and cause bare wood to show. Dealer is close by, so not too big an issue, but they have had it on their lot, more than it has been in my covered driveway! Open the top of your stove, and make sure the gas lines from the regulator (heat control knobs) go fully into the burner feed tube. Mine did not, caused a minor fire which could have been much worse, had I not been watching my food cook. I looked at 2 other units with the same stove on the dealer's lot that had the same problem. I do not know if they fixed those or.... Some have had paint fade issues within a short period of time on the brown front caps, but that was not limited to just PT. Mine has not....yet?

All in all, several minor and annoying things, but we really like our 290 rlt. Roger K. (PT service) has been a great help to us, and I thank him for standing behind the product!

Make sure that the dealer shows you the proper way to store the recliners in the back in order to close the slides. They stick out too far to bring in the slides in their normal position. Have them show you, by putting them in the correct position, and bring in the side. That was about my only complaint when I had mine. I imagine the 2016 doesn't have any changes. My wife loved the storage area we had behind the headboard for bedding. It tracked beautifully when being towed. Good luck with it.

All great information and knowledge. I did print out a PDI checklist just to make sure I have all bases covered. Fingers crossed all goes well.

turn on the AC and heat and make sure all the vents blow air. One half of my AC vents did not work - bad connecting and they had to go in and run the hoses correctly. Made a mess too.

Pick up went great. Walk through was sad, we ended up getting a fairly new person that wasn't confident in the operation of the unit. Thank fully we had our PDI check list and pretty much took over from there. No issue and everything worked perfectly. Towing it home was a breeze. Thanks everyone for the insights.

Oh good to know bc I was looking at a 290/295 and I should be able to tow it with no issues on my 2014 F150 SCREW SB EB Max Tow. The only thing I am doing is moving to 8-Ply BFG tires and installing 1-2.5" adjustable airbags and a slider Reese when I do go for it

I ran all my numbers to ensure I was within range. There are so many people that say one thing or another I just let the numbers do the talking. I am very impressed with power and ability of the 6.2L, honestly its the only thing that stopped me from getting the Ford Eco. Well that and I have always liked GMs. I did get timbrens (Haven't installed yet) but only to help with the seesawing when hitting certain bridges or bumps. Other wise the factory stops are several inches from touching with it loaded. As long as your numbers look good I say go for it and enjoy it! As I have learned from so much reading on this site...anything I say is just MHO :-)

No need for a slider hitch

Don't waste your money buying a slider hitch for the new 5th. wheel's. Even with a short bed pickup (5.5') you won't need a slider. Why spend the extra $$$ and have the extra weight in the truck when it's not needed.

Take notice of the front caps on the new 5vers. They all have the front corners tapered in. Not the old style boxy look. Thus you won't need the slider hitch.

I have the 6.5' box, my buddy has the 5.5' box. Neither one of us has a slider and there is no problems with making those 90 degree turns.

I actually would have to agree with that Fred. I haven't gone a full 90 but have been close just testing and it doesn't seem like it would be close. I do however have a slider if not just for the peace of mind. My hope is however I am never in a spot that I need to use it...

I am actually looking at upgrading my 2014 F150 SB SCREW FX4 to a new F150 EB 6.5 foot bed SCREW with the FX4 Package, 3.5 EB with longer bed gives me more towing 11,500 instead of 11,200 and 2650 payload instead of 1950

You are fortunate to get a listing of repairs the dealer accomplished when taking delivery of the unit from the factory. The dealer I purchased from, in Utah, refuses to disclose that information as does PrimeTime. Although we are pleased with the 294, I just feel somewhat suspicious about the lack of honest disclosure. When we do replace the unit I definitely will make disclosure a requisite issue prior to finalizing any transaction.
