primetime axles

The primetime lacrosse axle owners Manuel says max capacity is 8000 lb. Since the empty weight of trailer its 7900 and cargo weight of 1200 that is obviously over weight for axles. Anybody have troubles with axles breaking. Don't understand why they would put a light weight axle on the lacrosse.

I am just guessing here, but with two axles..... 8,000 lb. per X 2 = 16,000 lb.a

And also some of the weight is on the tow vehicle.

I believe some of the weight goes om the tongue. So the axles would have less on them than 7900.

On a side note, I've only seen 8k axles on DRV, Lifestyles and some of the high end, HEAVY 5th wheels. If you had 8k axles your trailer gvw would probably be 17,000-19,000 and empty in the 15k range.

On a tt your axles would be the 8k combined and your tongue is probably around 1000-1200lb? and there is your 1200 cargo cap.
So not overweight on axles unless you overload it or it scales much higher

My lacrosse sticker says 4400 lbs front and 4400 lbs rear.
The units dry weight is 8231 lbs and 1406 lbs of cargo. Making the units gross weight 9637 lbs.
About 1100 lbs of that is on the tongue not the 870 the book says I think.. so 8537 divided by 2 = 4268.5 lbs on each axle.
We all know they weigh much more then the sticker says.
I have my weights from the scale somewhere but of course I cant find them now.

You didn't post your floorplan and from the available floorplans I can't see an empty weight of 7900 and CCC of 1200. With the being said though, MillerTime and Plaokidd are correct. You will have 4K axles.

It is common to have axles sized like this. I would argue that running right at the edge of the axle capacities can increase the likelihood of axle problems. Especially if you load heavy and/or carry large amounts of FW. In my case I did experience a complete axle failure on my previous (non Prime Time) TT. I feel as though the axle sizing had a lot to do with that.

To your point though, your manual is correct, you have 8K (2 X 4K axles). You can also crawl underneath and get the precise rating from the axle itself.

Ummm. I think you need to check that again. I am pretty confident that you do NOT have 2 8K axles under a trailer with ~9KGVWR..

We haven't heard back from the OP since he made the 16K statement. I sure hope he doesn't load up thinking he's got 16K worth of axle capacity!!!

I have a 2012 Lacrosse 301RLS and last year I had a bad problem with tire wear related to the axle being under weight for the camper. My dry weight is 7122 lbs ,GVW is 9481. The installed axles were 4200lbs each. After a lot of effort by my dealer Lippert replaced the axles and springs with axles rated at 5200lbs each. We had 5,000 lb. axels and found them to be bare minimum for the trailer. We bent the back axel with the trailer barely loaded. After doing much research including speaking with our local MTO they gave us much advice! So we went with recommendations from trailering experts and replaced them with 7,000 lb. axels...incidentally after contacting forest river...and making them aware of the situation they offered no compensation...
