Does the addition of the metal supports change the carry capacity of the unit?

Is this repair being done at Recreational Specialties? If so, would anyone care to comment on their shop? My Crusader is currently there undergoing some work.

It's too bad that this frame flex issue is happening, but it seems like PT is stepping up and dealing with it.

I noticed this problem about a year out. Called rodger at prime time and sent in pics. It is called a frame flexor and was told it was not unsafe. Used the unit for another trip before it went to factory. 3/4 movement when hitched and unhitched. Junior was my contact, they did a excellent job repairing our unit. Had some other warranty work done while it was there. They found a couple of problems we were unaware of. The mfg of the frame was somehow involved. Nothing moves now. We have 25, to 35,000 miles on ours. Any movement that breaks the seal and allows water to penetrate is NOT normal
Great Service Prime time

Sorry to hear that other Sanibel owners are experiencing body/pin flex! We just completed a 1500 kms trip with our 2014 Sanibel 3501. During a fuel stop early in our trip we were surprised to discover a 3/16" - 1/4" separation on the driver's side....exactly as described by other Sanibel owners. We immediately contacted our RV dealer who subsequently contacted Prime Time Mfg. to schedule appropriate repairs to the frame, etc. at the manufacture. We find it very disappointing that such a problem should arise in a high-end unit!

It sounds like Sanibel is the brand to own! Teething problems come with any design changes, and that fact that it's being taken care of is very confidence inspiring.
I don't own a fiver, but in the future???

Do the Crusaders use the same frame? Does this qualify as "frame flex"? Thoughts...opinions!

No, many factors set the rating. Starting with tires, axles, brakes and up.

RattVader,
I am not sure, but on my Sanibel 3500 I had some flexing from when the unit was on its jacks to when it was connected to truck. See before and after photos. In addition, the caulking on that side was pushed out and required re tape seal. Unit is scheduled for repair.

Hi Ratt Vader
I don't know if it is the same frame. Forest River buy frame from Lippert. Some people think that Lippert build frame to the fifth wheel manufacturer specs. I think that Lippert has a catalog of different frame with different specs and fifth wheel manufacturer choose the one they want. So they might go with model xxx that has 6K axle + 2 front jack + rear stabilizer + 16 inch wheel and tires. it probably have a 10 inch I beam and a 6 inch drop frame. So the manufacturer goes thru the Lippert catalog and choose the right frame for the job. The higher you go in the quality of the frame , the more expensive it is. probably right now, the most expensive would be a 12 inch I beam (because they use only I beam) and 8-10 inch drop frame + 8K axle + 17.5 wheel and tire + disk brakes + 6 point leveling jack.......
I know for a fact that some fifth wheel manufacturer will reinforced the frame when they received it from Lippert. A few minutes ago, I was looking at a Landmark San antonio at my campground. You could easely see that they added another piece of steel tube over the 8 inch drop frame. I have heard that Jayco will also reinforce the frame on the high end model.

From your picture, I would think that there is some flex in the front portion of you overhang.

We had this problem with our Sanibel 3500. Prime took the RV back to their plant in Indiana and completed the repairs. Every thing seems okay now.

Has this problem been corrected with new units or is PT just fixing as they occur? Also is the problem also happening on a lot of the 3600's? Love the floor plan and considering a purchase but hoping that they have begun correcting them on newly manufactured units prior to shipping to dealers.

My 2013 Sanibel is a early 2013 model and had the flex issue (now fixed). I was told that the issue was corrected after the problem raised it ugly head. Recreational Specialist was expecting approximately 1000 affected units. I do know that not all Sanibel owners are aware of this issue. About a month ago, I seen another 2013 Sanibel unit in the same campground as mine and started a conversation with the owner. We looked at the area of concern and his unit was also excessively flexing. He was shocked and was going to have it checked out. No recall, for I was told it is not a safety issue. I am glad I put on the miles (6000) on my unit and notice the deficiency.

Hopefully someone from Prime Time is reading this forum and can address this issue.

We just had ours fixed in Elkhart a month ago. No flexing after about a 1,000 miles. There were wall to wall Sanibels there when we were. I also met a couple at a campground with a 2013 Sanibel who had the problem and didn't know it. I like that they are fixing it but it really should be a recall.

2014 3600

I'm looking at a 2014 model 3600 that's new at the dealer and it's only been pulled to the dealer from the factory. Based on the descriptions in this thread I would say that this one is doing it as well. Love the floor plan but a little hesitant to get into something with a known problem. I don't want to have to take it to factory, they should have to do that.

This dealership had not heard of the problem but the service manager brought the tractor down to lift it and see for themselves. Seem pretty supportive.

Anyone else seeing this on 2014's?

I have a 2014 3600, I have not noticed any frame flex, but I also have not gone and measured it either.

We have a 2013 3500 Sanibel, and today are taking back to our Dealer in Belmont Wi for exactly what your pictures show. Our pictures are the same, more on headboard side, but on both sides. Our Dealer in their warranty department said she had never heard of this. Ouch, hope this is not the beginning of a long challenge. Prime Time, Forest River, we need your help, PLEASE.

They are aware and have taken action for repairs on the flex issue. I contacted Roger Stickle of PT after being told by my dealer that the flex is normal. His email: rstickel@forestriverinc.com You may be one of the lucky ones whose dealer will take it to PT for real time results. In addition, when your unit is brought into Elkhart, Ind for the repair, give them a detailed all inclusive list of everything you think is wrong with your unit. i.e.. I was not satisfied with the mattress due to the memory foam part of it losing its memory and they replace the mattress with the current residential king size model. So far so good on all the repairs on my 2013 Sanibel 3500.
