Shower question

Tracer 3150bhd. In the shower the walls are lose ( not caulked) to the tub, is this normal ? Or can / should I caulk the gap so water doesn't splash up behind there?
When we took delivery I asked and the guy said " you don't want to seal it" but could not give reason why.

I don't know why they do it that way but our last two trailers and our current one were done that way.

I was told that the space leaves area for flex and if you caulked it, it would just pull away.

I had installed a modular shower unit in my home once and the instructions said not to chalk the bottom to allow for expansion and contraction. The shower base should have a high "lip" the the walls fit over. It should be high enough that the water should not be able to get up and over behind the wall.
