Storage compartment locks?
How secure are the storage compartments? Do all Primetime RVs have the same lock and key? I hope to carry a Honda 2000 generator in the front compartment under the king pin when not in use. Thanks

From reading this forum it appears most RVs use the same key for storage compartments. After I read this I changed mine.

My extra keys in my old McKenzie Lakota (Monaco) fit my V-Cross just fine...
So at least it will be stolen by someone with a trailer, or a trailer storage compartment key.

From what I understand is that there are only a handful of unique keys. I have never taken my key and attempted to open another garage door and never would. I just do not feel comfortable about knowing this so I bought the Combi-Cam lock for both of my doors. You set the 3-digit combination to what you want. I have not installed them yet due to winter.

^^^ what he said. Though, even with changing the lock - the storage compartments aren't very secure at all. More times than not, with mine - if you pull hard enough, they come open.
Out of sight, out of mind helps. But, if you're really concerned - you might want to figure out a way to chain it up in there.

Lots of camper manufarcurers use the ever popular 751 key. We were camping at a Wisconsin state park and I heard the guy next to us (newbie) mention how he lost his compartment key. He was shocked when I walked over, handed him my key and said, 'Here, try this one', and it unlocked his compartment lock.

How about this one. It is stainless, beautiful, and almost as expensive as the generator.

From what I understand the Prime Time fifth wheels do not use the CH751 keys for storage doors.

Prime Time does not use the standard 751 key because they use slam latches. When I got mine, I found out each trailer had a different keyed latch.

I was going to ask if they were the slam latches. I had a heck of a time finding a locksmith that could copy the slam latches. they listed it under bus door and they are supposed to be unique.

Are they unique ie different that the other latches or are they unique and different than other slam latches.
MY V-crass has slam latches for all the compartments except for the battery which is a 751.
But are my slam keys different than your slam keys.???

My Wildcat has slam latches on each side but the big door under the front had the 751. Pretty dumb in my opinion, may as well not have a lock on the door. Changed all of mine to the tubular locks. If I were to bring my generator i would run a cable around something in the basement. The other down side is that the plastic handle on the Honda EU2000 can be broken and still easily stolen. Seen it happen.

Replace all the 751 latches with slam latches on our 5er.

Outside door locks
The key to my Crusader slam doors opened up 50% of the doors in the storage lot where I keep my coach parked. I called Fastec industrial who makes the slam door locks for all the primtime RVs and they told me that all the locks shipped have the same key. They were a HF315. Two other friends of mine have Crusaders and all our keys work on each other's Crusader.
On the Fastec web site, I ordered 7 replacement locks for $4.50 each. Each lock comes with a master and a non master cylinder. You also get 2 keys for each lock so I ended up with 14 keys. When you order the lock, you can specify your own code from HF301 to HF351. Just don't pick 315. I then had to pay a locksmith $40 for a service call to pop out the old cylinder and install the new one. It took him 5 minutes to do all 7 locks so he only charged me the minimum service call.
As someone said earlier, the doors are not very strong to start with so if someone wanted in they can pull real hard to get them open. But at least now I know not all Fastec lock users have a key that will fit my doors.

Honda sells a metal bar that goes around the handle, makes it harder to cut off. Remember locks only keep honest people out.

My solution... Cheap, easy to install and effective. Also supplemented by barrel locks. Not a single break-in.

Hi
I have a Crusader 295RST, You all are saying the keys to the storage lockers are not unique? Anyone with the same crusader can open them? I guess I will be replacing mine as well.

Fastec Locks
When I talked to Fastec, they told me all the locks they ship to Primetime are keyed to the HF315 key. If your HF key is not a 315 then they gave me bad info. But my friend who has the Crusader 260 also has the HF315 key.

Thanks. I will check. I guess if I don't keep anything of major value in there it doesn't matter but it just seems weird
