Turn off the fireplace flames
Quick question I have the standard fireplace that we all probably have. Model f f p 27210 7-H. Anyways I follow the instructions but I can't seem to figure out how to have only the heater working without the fireplace lighted flames. I can dim the flame but is there a way of shutting the lights actually off?

On mine there is a place to stop effects ( flames) . That is the term that it uses.

Water usually works outside in the pit, but I don't think it would work on an electric fireplace.
But seriously, Forest River uses several different brands and some fireplaces you cannot turn off the flame effects without turning off the complete heater. If you have the access panel at the bottom so you can change the bulbs when they burn out, then unscrew the bulbs or put a switch in line with the lights.

On mine, you can dim the lighted flames, but not turn off. Maybe that is to remind you the heat is on.

I can only dim the flames. Like Scheinin says, I believe it is so you can't forget it is on.

Unscrew the light bulb. I have a fireplace like that at home, and when the bulb burns out, the heater still works.

In no way can you have the lights in series with the heating element. The lights will not withstand the amount of wattage that the element uses. But then again the mfgr may have a relay in line with the lights that opens when there isn't any current flowing through the light circuit.

That's what I was thinking.
If the reason you don't want the "flames" on is because of the light when trying to sleep, can you block the light without blocking the heater vent (cardboard panel or similar), meaning are there separate openings for the air intake and vent?

Most of the heaters I've seen, the heat comes out above the flames. In fact unless I have the upper grill open where the controls and heat element are, then it runs for about 10 minutes then shuts off and will not turn back on automatically unless I cycle it through the settings.

My FFP272107-H fireplace also kills the heating element when you hit the flame off switch. My "flame" motor is binding and making all kinds of noise, so I would like to operate with it off, but cannot. Anybody know how long the warranty is on these fireplaces?

Long enough to get off the lot...
Seriously though, if not. The standard year, see if reaching out to the manufacturer helps. I have had 50% luck with going through the manufacturer vs fr.

Can only dim the lights, not turn them off on mine. Contact the manufacturer of the fireplace. I didn't get the remotes with mine and I just went straight to the manufacturer and they sent me 2 free of charge. 4 Seasons just gave me some "song and dance" about the remotes interfering with other devices and they just didn't provide them. I'm sure someone took them out of my rig before I bought it to use in theirs. They work perfectly. The manufacturer was very helpful.

Gustafson FFP272107-H
I talked with Gustafson today about the FFP272107-H. They said it is an "old" unit, at least several years old, and they no longer carry it nor have any parts for it.
They did suggest that Way Global carries electric fireplaces that are similar:

I got the same answer! I finally told them I wanted the remote that the fireplace manufacturer sent and I would be the judge if it interferes with anything else & deal with it myself!
