Thanks for the warning, I found the part on Amazon and have it ready to install come spring. We are new owners of a 2015 crusader 335bhs. We picked it up in November and put it in storage. We upgraded from a passport ultralight that we had for all of one season before we made the jump to a fiver. I just wanted to say thanks to all who have posted here, I think I read every thread about the 335 before we purchased the trailer and I think I knew more about the unit then the dealer. I will try to contribute where I can. We can't wait till spring and we can take it on a shake down trip.

Has Forest River addressed this situation by replacing it with a more dependable vacuum breaker -- or is it "buyer beware"
Thank you for the heads up

I had this happen on my brand new Tracer 230BFS, the first time out. The dealer replaced it with the same part and winterized the unit for the first time. They did not winterized the black flush. Hope all is well as there was quite a flood inside and dripping down from right next to the wall under the trailer. Cold weather was already upon us, so I hope there is no water frozen in the underbelly. Reason for the failure - two bugs lodged inside the valve.

This thread is very informative to say the least. I never gave it a second thought about winterizing the BWF lines (first time having a BWF). My back flow vacuum breaker is located under the bathroom vanity and happens to be the cheap black plastic one (it will be getting replaced). The water lines going to and from it are not PEX, they are that nylon braided hose. I really doubt this type of hose would actually break and/or split if some water was still in them and it froze??? right or wrong? Just a little worried, it's after midnight about 16 degree F and I ran out and looked and took pictures....

I still don't know what's wrong with just getting rid of the entire fitting and just bypass it with a 50 cent coupler. I did last year and haven't had any issues, black flush works the same as ever.

The point of the device is to prevent black water from inadvertently coming back from your black tank, thru your black water rinse hose, and finally possibly back into the campground or whatever freshwater supply you are hooked up to. If you find it necessary to remove, please make sure you add one at the hookup point of your trailer.

I don't leave my bwf connected until I want to flush, even then I use a Y Connector so it's impossible for any flow back into the water supply.

Just put a shut off valve on the hose as it goes into the flush connection and shut it off there while the water is still flowing.
I use a black pocket hose strictly for the black tank flush.

That's exactly what I do. The Y hose connector has 2 shutoffs, and when I use the bwf, I shut it off while the water is running. Also a separate hose for the bwf, even a different color so never any confusion.

I decided that the next time I winterize the pink antifreeze will be pumped through BWF via the outside shower. Went to Lowe's and got a 3/4 Male Hose x 1/2" MIP, threaded right on the shower hose. $4.39
