Warning/FYI to all Crusader 335BHS owners

and probably many other models as well.....happened to me this weekend & couldn't have happened at a worse time!

Last trip of the season we're closing up camp...I'm doing the tank emptying thang, hook up & turn on the black tank flush to give it one last good flush.......10 seconds later I have water gushing out of the bottom of the trailer where the low point drains are. After a quick shut off & some choice words I halted all flushing operations.
So......this eve. after work I decided to look into where this leak is coming from. Long story short...the vacuum break in the flush line failed. Where is it you ask? This is where I want to save ya'll the aggravation I went through finding it...behind the shower control valves...easy access!
Did some research and found out these (plastic) valves made by B&B have a high failure rate & most stores no longer carry them. I was able to find a brass version & ordered one. Not cheap though, $68 + $12 shipping...damn thing better be on my doorstep in the morning!!
Food for thought for anyone looking to "head off" a future problem.

Can you post up your replacement one you ordered? Thanks for the heads up. I too was flushing out for the year this past wknd and noticed some water puddling up in underbelly and driving thru spray foam around dump valve.

Well that sucks, how wet did everything get? when I replace mine(before next season) I may find a new home for it at least a place that if it leaks again you will be able to see it. PDX Rv has that part on sale for $58.53 now call them and see if you can get a $10.00 credit. Keepaeyeonit

Not too wet, I caught it less than 30 sec. after I turned the water on.

That's what I paid, but they hit me for $12 shipping! My first post was a typo, meant to say $58

Did it leak/spray against the wood framing?

I don't use my black tank flusher all that much, but this definitely concerns me. Especially since we winter camp and we use our water system during the winter (we winterize after each trip during the winter months).

Thanks for the warning and the fix.

Curious were you using a pressure regulator on the hose to flusher? Not saying that caused it but interesting to know. I've argued for thier use on that flusher.

Had one fail in my cougar but pretty sure it was because I forgot to winterize the black tank flusher. Yes they are a hazard for sure.

I'm not sure why you'd have to winterize the black take flusher.
Never have in mine.

It's open on the tank end and unless it's plugged the water would just run out.

Right?

Ours failed this summer, water running out of the bathroom vanity. I managed to pull the water lines down, and replaced the valve with a 75 cent 1\2 inch fitting from our hardware store.

hmmm not proud of how I found it but, first I partially removed my water htr to see where the flush hose amongst 35 other hoses went....pulled the fireplace, then pulled cable connection plates in the ent. ctr......and wala found it there opposite the shower control panel.

If it has a vacum valve water will sit in that and freeze and crack it and the pipe that goes up to the valve.

I'm having trouble seeing the point of a vacuum valve. The black tank is vented- it shouldn't be able to pull vacuum, right? A back-flow prevention valve I could see.
