Warranty Request Denied By Spartan Rant
I bought a 2015 Spartan 1032 5th wheel almost a year ago. I recently took it back to the selling dealer (General RV in Salt Lake City) to have some final warranty related items taken care of before my one year warranty ran out. On one side of the big slide, the trim extended approximately 1" below where it should have ended. On the back side of the slide, it did not look like the slide was completely retracted at the rear. I asked for a new piece of trim for the front of the slide and asked the dealer to put in a request for the slide to be adjusted to seat properly in the rear. Spartan denied both requests saying that that is just the way they are made sometimes. I have seen other new units on the dealers lot to know that mine is not the norm and that the trim and the rear of the slide not completely retracted is not correct.
I know these are only cosmetic problems because the slide works fine, does not leak and on the inside of the trailer the slide looks to be level across the top and bottom when extended. I should not be surprised that these items were denied because of the way RV's are manufactured these days. I have been very lucky with my Spartan so far in that I have had no problems with it. I did replace the cheap TowMax tires that came on it with GY G614's and replaced the weak group 24 batteries that the dealer put on the unit that could not keep up with the parasitic draws when boondocking.
I guess you live and learn from your mistakes. I am not new to RV'ng and probably should have pointed out these cosmetic flaws before signing on the dotted line with the dealer but sometimes you get overwhelmed with all the new gadgetry during the walk through and PDI. I normally trade up about every 2 years and already have my eyes on a larger unit. Next RV for me will most likely NOT be a Forest River or Prime Time made product because of the denial of the above small cosmetic flaws!
