Does he own the business? Or is he an employee?

DH and I even tipped our PDI guy. Tips are the lube that makes service relationships go smoothly.

Also tipped the security guy once, at our warranty service center. He lives on-site and due to a traffic jamming wreck on the interstate we arrived after closing. He had to leave what is his *home* and come open the gates for us. He didn't speak English well, didn't want to take the tip, but certainly understood when Sneak said: here, go buy some beer for the weekend. Grinned from ear to ear and accepted the tip!

I'd tip 'im anyway, if he does good work.

If he's nice, friendly, courteous and competent, I'd slip him a $20 regardless of whether he owns the business or not.

I have a one man show mobile guy who does a great job WHEN/IF I let someone else work on our FW. I always round up my check by $15-20. I don't know if it's because I "tip" or he's just a good guy, but he is always johnny on the spot and seems to do a little extra when I need him. Heck, I even offered to help when he installed my long slide toppers (I actually did help him). He was so appreciative that he reduced his original quote which he partially got back in my tip.

My wife and I own a boarding kennel and frequently when people pick up their dogs they want to tip us. As the owner I don't accept the tip but tell them if they would like to tip our workers I'm sure they would appreciate that. That's who gets the tip in our business.
