Windows open in the rain?????

Quick question. My camper is about 1.5 hrs north of me right now.. its left on my seasonal site in upstate NY... i closed up camper yesterday for the week and will not be back up there till this friday.. It has been pouring since yesterday.. I am now wondering and thinking that i might have left one or both of my front bedroom windows open.. I cant remember if i closed them or not yesterday.. My question is, are these windows meant to drain and be open during rain storms? I am assuming that the worse that can happen is that i might get some rain that drips on the inside wallpaper? and am I chancing any major water damage in one weeks time if the two windows are indeed open? no one that i know is in the campground during the week who can check for me, but i hate to waste a 4 hour round trip after a long days work just to find out its indeed closed... what would you do????

Call the management of the CG and get them to tape over the windows with duct tape and plastic. I'm sure it won't be the first time they've been asked. Tell you will pay for their trouble. Maybe you can sleep this week.

bob caldwell-For almost anyone from NYC, Upstate is anything above the city itself. For everyone else, Upstate is, normally, above Albany. For those of us in Western NY, Upstate is usually the Adirondack region. In case you're wondering, we also have the Southern Tier, which starts in the Finger Lakes region and goes south to the border, but does not include NYC. Geographic definition in this state is like trying to pin down a politition on an issue, slippery at best.

What would I do.

I'd take a shop-vac and a couple of fans with me next weekend and hope I was wrong about the windows being open.

I left our bathroom ceiling vent wide open after last camp trip. Then it rained over 3 inches the next night. Checked camper next day and bathroom was dry thanks to the MajicAir vent cover. Now I'm adding one to the forward roof vent. Great way to let the camper breathe went not in usr.

How true! I used to LOL at people from NYC who called Westchester "upstate." I went to high school in the southern Adirondacks...Saranac Lake and Lake Placid were "upstate" to us!

Our bedroom windows were left open last night during a horrific pounding rain storm, near the Southern Tier by the way. Our bedroom walls and carpeting were perfectly dry. One window is a flip out and the other is a slide. I guess if you didn't have a wind blown driving rain, you probably are ok. Good luck from a former Finger Lakes/Southern Tier resident. We love the area and return every summer to Seneca Lake among other sites.

Don't use duct tape. Terrible to get off and can damage finish, use clear packing tape.

Agree on Duct Tape, if the must WD40 works well at removing goo.

keeprr-Can you share with us where we might find the MajicAir vent covers? They sound great.

WSY DD693- We love the Finger Lakes area. We drive down there several times a year. Great wine country, isn't it?

Kate-E,

As beautiful as any area I have ever visited. I am originally from Waverly and spent so many lovely summers in the Hector area with boyhood friends. We now still get together there every summer and a few live their year round. There are several brew houses now on the Lake and one distillery that I know of. One of our friends own a Restaurant & Marina at Watkins Glen. Looking forward to two weeks there in July and again in August before heading south.

Generally "upstate" refers to the north eastern bulge in the state map consisting mostly of the Adirondak Mtns and forest. It can also include the areas near Watertown, etc.

I scanned this thread but if I'm repeating- sorry....
Next time leave a key with management! You never know when they might
need to get inside to do something like this.
Say one day they notice water running out from the belly of your rig???
I"d think you need to leave them a key at any long term camp site or storage
area.

Happy Trails!

"Upstate" is any part of the state that is north of you, no matter how far north you are until you get to Canada, ay. Then when you turn around or live upstate, everythings "downstate" until you get to fagetaboutit!
