X-Chocks For Prime Time's Wide Axles

I always liked using X-chocks to help stabilize the trailer when camping, but the one's I own are useless with Prime Time's E-Z Tow wide axles.

I had intended making my own this winter and never got around to it. I found some DIY instructions using 4x4's. They were for the normal tire spacing, but I was going to try and cut the length of the 4x4's to fit.

There aren't many places that I could find that sell the The Bal X-Tended Tire Locking X-Chocks, but I did find a pair for $162.95, including shipping (can't recall the web site). A seller on ebay had a pair for $196.95, including shipping. I made an offer and ended up paying $152.95 including shipping for the pair. Ordered on friday, they shipped on monday and I received them today. That's pretty good considering I used standard shipping. Everything was as ordered and in new condition.

Here's a link to the ebay site if anyone is interested; BAL X-Tended Tire Locking X-Chock For Rv Camper New - eBay (item 230590958176 end time Mar-28-11 12:26:35 PDT)

Thanks for posting. I was looking for a better way as I had always used Roto-choks, but of course those will not work on the LaCrosse.

If your thinking about buying a set you might try calling Tweety's and/or RV Wholesalers. I didn't find any on their web site, but they may be able to get them for you at a decent price. Make sure they're the X-Tended Fit.

I didn't think about calling until after I bought.

I was searching a few weeks ago and found these sites to order from. I see grhodes50 had luck on e-bay. I have not ordered mine yet but, this style are the best I've used so far. Camping World doesn't carry them yet.

Gary, how well do they work? I've been reading about them but would like to hear first hand how much they stabilize the trailer.

Just picked up our new Crusader 290RLT a few weeks ago (first 5'er). Just sitting in the driveway waiting for the snow to go away.

Alright!! Another PT Crew Member!

Congrats and welcome!

I use the X-chocks on both sides. They will not stop all movement completely, but they do make a difference.

Good luck and happy camping!

I think they help a lot. They don't completely stop all of the trailer's movement, but they'll pretty much stop the fore and aft movement of the trailer. Of course I'm talking about a tt and not a 5'er. I'm sure a tripod will help a lot with your 5'er as well.

Just purchased mine from the same e-bay store grhodes50 got his from. Got them for the same price (I did it as a "Make an Offer" purchase). Should be getting them any day now. Click on the link that grhodes50 put up if you want a set (when I bought he only had 7 left, 5 after my purchase but that dosen't mean he won't have more). Oh, BTW, he has a 97% positive feedback rating.

We still haven't received the crusader so I'm curious if the Crusader also has the extra wide Axels. We have the regular x-chocks that we used with our other 5th wheel. Really hoping I don't have to buy new ones.

Glad you got the same deal I did.

For you PT Crusader owners, you can find the regular Bal X-chocks for $76 a pair by the same seller I used and by one other seller as well. Neither has a "Make Offer" tab on their site and the $76 price is a "Buy It Now" option.

I just bought the regular BAL X Chock from camping world today - they were on sale for $32.99 each (If you print the internet special out the store will match them like mine did) -
that price is also if you are camping club member too.
I bought two of them. Havent used them yet but am hoping they will make a diffrence

The X chocks are good at keeping fore and aft movement to a minimum. I have however run across a few issues that others may want to know about.
If using the Equalizer brand WDH, remove the spring arms BEFORE installing X-chocks. When trying to lift tongue with jack to install or remove spring arms the wheels locked against each other torques the frame which causes the spring arms to remain tight against L brackets which keeps you from easily removing or installing spring bars without a BUNCH of effort.

The other item is a theory so far but, the pad on the X chocks pressing against the tread of the tire, in the same spot for many days at a time possibly, I worry about the possibility of damaging the steel belts and/or seperating tread from inner carcass? On a flat surface I do not tighten them very much but when it is in front of our house (on a pretty good grade) when we are loading or unloading it I have to tighten up a bit more.

Just something I think about......
