Yamaha ef2400ishc

My single honda Eu2000i will (obviously) not power my ac unit on my tracer air 250. I was looking at the ef2400ishc by yamaha as they claim it will run most 13,500btu air conditioners. Then I'd sell my honda and recoup some of the cost. Thing is, once you put oil and gas in a generator, you can't return it so if it doesn't fire up my ac I'm out 1200 bucks.

Sooo, that being said, does anyone have one of these running their ac on a tracer successfully? I know it won't run anything else but that's OK, I just need it to cool down the camper for an hour or two in the evening and maybe at midday. Let me know, thanks!

Well the bad news is you need the 2nd Honda Gen the EU 2000i companion to run the air. I Bought the Boliy 3600Si unit that can run the 13,500 air and it came with battery start and cost less than the 2 Honda's. About the same DB rating as Honda. The newer models are now equip to add an optional fuel tank of 6 gal or more. Will run 8 to 12 hrs with air on. Later RJD

The companion is 1100 bucks plus the expensive parallel kit. If I buy the single yamaha then I can sell my honda and end up only 600 bucks out of pocket. It weighs 75 pounds and is as quiet as the honda. Every generator I've seen that someone claims to be "about the same" as a honda has clearly never heard a honda for side by side comparison.

I've heard the yamaha and it is the same if not quieter Than my Eu2000i.

Have a friend that has the Yamaha 2400 & he wasn't able to run his 13.5k btu. That said, I'm 99% sure that with a hard start cap added to the AC, it's do it. If I were in the market for a genny, and could manage the weight, if definitely spring for a larger one, but that's me. The idea of two Honda's is great too, but costly I realize.

My crusader 295rst has the quiet cool 15000btu dometic. I was able to start and run it with my Yamaha 2400is about 6 years old but low hours. Will every ac work? Probably not. My 2400is also ran the 13.5 ac in my last trailer a 2007 cougar.

I don't have a Tracer, but do have an Yamaha EF2400is. I have run my 13,500 BTU AC at 3500' elevation without a problem. But.......I take some precautions.

I make sure the fridge and water heater are on gas only. Also make sure the freezer defrost strip is off, if your fridge has 1.

I will let the genny run a bit to charge the batteries to hopefully lessen the load there. I will also let the AC fan get up to speed before starting the AC compressor.

I have heard that a hard-start capacitor in the AC helps with the load, but I haven't had a problem starting and running the AC off of the EF2400is with the capacitor that came with my AC.

EU2000i Companion $1049 Parallel Cable set $49.

If you don't need AC, you can bring just one. Any generator that can run you AC as a single unit will be heavy and difficult to move around.

I didn't want to take the risk, I bought a champion 3100 inverter generator locally for 850. It won't be quite as quiet as my honda or the yamaha but it will run my ac and TV at the same time so we'll see how that works out. Probably keep my honda jut in case, it would be hard to replace for what I bought it for.

IMO almost every AC unit needs a "start assist" (or hard start) kit added. Especially if you see the lights flicker when the compressor "hits". Some may already have them. FR should specify that Dometic (for example) include the very inexpensive kit all the time every time.

We have two Yamaha 2000 that we wire together. Runs everything perfectly. Bought the generators/inverters at Costco $599 each. As a woman I can lift them no problem .

Those are not Yamaha generators.
They have Yamaha engines.
They're from a company called Smarter Tools.

I took the new generator over to the trailer storage spot tonight for a test run. I was a little scared when I plugged my Campbell Hausfeld 13 gallon air compressor into the generator and it threw it into overload and would not start the compressor.

However, I had no such problems with the trailer. Outside temp was 96 degrees today. It fired the AC right up after a slight hiccup when the compressor started. I then turned on the fridge to Electric, turned on the antenna booster and fired up the TV and surround sound speakers. With all this going, the generator was still able to operate in "econ" mode at slightly less than full throttle. Inside the trailer with the generator right at the back bumper it could just barely be heard over the AC. I ran it for 30 minutes this way, no problem. Hopefully it will pull its weight when we go up 2k feet in elevation over the 4th of July. When we are dry camping, the fridge will be on propane but the TV will be going if its 95 outside.

Now it was perhaps a tad noisier than my Honda eu2000i at full throttle, but not by much and it was carrying the load of the AC which the Honda will not. I did not have my batteries hooked up to the trailer, so the charger was not drawing power for them. I then ran it over to my inlaws and plugged it into their trailer (batteries hooked up on this one). It fired their AC right up and kept on chugging, even while charging their batteries.

Color me impressed!

As a word of caution repeated numerous times here on the forum: If the generator is not an inverter unit that has a "true sine wave" output, it could cause problems with the electronics in your campers......TVs, sound systems, and mother boards in your appliances.

Just saying.

This is their inverter model, not an open frame type. It is the 75531i. Amazon has them for 839 with free prime shipping, it's allot if generator for the money.
