Happenings on the way to Goshen.....

Left St.Louis area this morning headed to Springfield, IL. 10 miles south of Springfield I noticed in the mirror that the plastic trim piece that goes over the tires was broken and bent back 90 degrees as we drove along at 65 mgh. Stopped and found 3 srews had pulled loose from the front of the trim piece. I took the rest of the screws out and figured we could fix this after we got to the campground. We got pulled into the campground and started setting up for the night and.....HOLY S**T.......the front tire on the driver sidr had about 25% of the tread missing.....and still holding air.

We called our friendly Tire Shield folks and within 45 minutes we had a new tire installed and the picture became a little clearer.

I remember hitting something in the road early this morning but thought nothing more about it. Thinking now that the tire got cut and started coming apart, took out the brace that holds the bottom of the trim piece, pieces of tread knocked a small hole in the area above the tires, and most likley sometime in the whole ordeal the trim piece got taken out.

When I stopped to remove the trim piece the tire tread that was missing must have been in the down position because I did not see any evidence of any issues. I am amazed that when I got back on the road and again running 65 mph ther was no more damage done.

WOW! Did you check the tire behind it really well?
Keep an eye on it.
Drive safe.

I would love to have that forecasted weather. It's been shake & bake here in SoCal. Maybe someday a rally will be do-able for me. I hope someone will take lots of pictures.

Happy traveling.

Wish I was going too....

X2! If that was caused by something the tires ran over the rear tire may have been damaged too.

Wow is right Bob, Could be what you thought was hitting something on the road was that chunk of rubber coming off the tire and causing the tire/axle to thump violently. Must have been a heat seal of the outer tire, it looks except for the rubber on the edge like it was a cap. After all the miles you put on them tires, maybe it's time to let loose of some of that mattress padding and replace the other three. See how easy it is for me to spend your money.
It is good that you had no other problems associated with that mishap.
See ya Sat.

Just stopped in Madison at the KOA after a nice little 9 hour drive from Jamestown ND today. Leaving at 11 tomorrow as we want to stop at camping world in Madison. That is unless someone knows of one near Elkhart. So far we have put in over 1957 km since Thursday afternoon at 4pm.
