Anyone joining us at the Charleston SC rally?
We are booked and looking forward to meeting other FROGS. We live in Charleston but love to camp at James Island County Park.
Any others going?

Unfortunately, we will miss it by a few days. We have reservations for Thanksgiving and it is our most anticipated trip of the year as James Island CG is our favorite place. We also have reservations the week of July 4th.

DW and I are from JI but new 5'er owners. Where that park is was all woods when I was growing up. Is it hard to reserve a spot there say in a couple weeks. We are down in Beaufort and trying to get into Hunting Island SP is next to impossible unless you booked a year in advance. Thanks

It would be very hard to get a reservation at James Island on short notice, depending on the time of year but they will put you on a waiting list & call if they have cancellations. We made reservations for this Thanksgiving in December, 2012. We called recently to see if we could switch sites & were told they were already booked.

You're very welcome! We were on the waiting list for this past Thanksgiving and something eventually came open so I'd say that there's still a good chance you can get in. We weren't able to go as turned out so we were determined to go this year and made our reservation early. Their Festival of Lights starts in November and we hear it's really something to see. Good luck!

It is awesome to see! We have taken the kids up there when they were younger. You can drive through it, I think it around 3 miles, tune your radio to a station and listen to Christmas music and a short narrative about it's making and some of the sponsors. Really nice to see.

Being from Charleston, several years ago the DW and I drove through Lake Aire looking around at the facility. It has been at least 5 years ago. We were not impressed. It appeared to be "outdated". Things could have changed since we last were up there. Have you talked with anyone who has stayed there before? We may be going up there this weekend. If so, I will drive in there and look around, see if anything looks different. Have you heard of "The Oaks" or "Oaks Plantation" (can't remember exactly) but its off Hwy 17 and my neighbor thinks it's nice. I'll check out Lake Aire for you if I run up there this weekend.

Not sure if you've ever been to Charleston before, but it's an amazing city and so much to see. If you get a chance, be sure to see the Angel Tree on John's Island. It's incredible!

I've heard great things about Oak Plantation as well.

Been about 10 years since we visited Charleston, lovely city, spent 3 years there at CAFB in the 60's. Looked at Oak Plantation and it had about the same reviews as Lake Aire, deciding factor was we could get PA discount. Thanks for taking a look, let me know what you think of it as a base for a couple days.

Southern Nights, Southern Lights, Southern Bites
We're finishing up the tours and meals for the Charleston Southern Nights / Southern Lights / Southern Bites trip for the week before Thanksgiving.
Last year we had about 8 couples on the waiting list, and will give them a call before we post the registration form, then it will be open to everyone. We have 25 spots reserved at James Island County Park, right in the middle of the Holiday Festival of Lights.

We went into the park last weekend to book for the rally and they didn't know anything about the FROG group booking so we just booked on our own. We got one of the last three sites for that time frame.
See ya'll there

I live about 4 miles from Lake Aire and it is one of the nastiest campgrounds I have every seen. We looked about 6 months ago.
Oaks Plantation is a much better option

We have 25 sites booked that we got before we left JICP last year. We're working on the tours and meals, and will post the package as soon as we have it wrapped up. We're limited on the number of sites we can have, in part, by the capacity of the buses. If you've been to downtown Charleston, on the peninsula, you'll know that a 57-passenger bus can't move around down there, so we have to do 2 25-passenger buses. For the second tour (Magnolia Plantation last year) we can do a larger bus and can all travel together.

I think we're down to about six sites left for the Holiday Festival of Lights. You'll want to move fast if you want to go.
This year we've added an extra night, a carriage tour of the historic downtown peninsula, chosen a different plantation for a tour, and added a tour of the USS Lexington and other ships (and a boat) at Patriots Point.
(I'll assume here that any Navy vets know the difference between a ship and a boat. Those who served on boats are very protective of the distinction.)

I just got an email about additional dates of nov 10-15. Two of us are thinking about it. Are there hookups?

All of the sites have water and electricity, and most have sewer. We'll be in a full-service campground at James Island County Park, where the festival is held.
There are fewer than ten sites left, and the e-mail went to about 18,000 people, so you'll want to move fast.
