Charleston, SC / Holiday Festival of Lights
We were able to score 25 sites at James Island County Park during the Holiday Festival of Lights. We have four nights, starting Sunday, November 25 (the Sunday following Thanksgiving) through Wednesday, November 28 with departure on Thursday.
For those not familier with either the campground or the festival, James Island County Park has a premier campground with 125 sites, most with full hookups. Sites are very level, and many are secluded by trees, although not all of ours will be secluded. The campground has free wi-fi but no cable.
The park itself is about one square mile, beautifully landscaped, and includes forested areas, marshes, and open meadows. All of the areas support native wildlife. There are six miles of paved hiking / biking trails, almost all level.
The Holiday Festival of Lights is a spectacular event that includes over a hundred unique figures, built in the park by park staff, and ranging up to 60 feet tall and nearly 200 feet long. The three-mile display is illuminated by over 3 million Christmas lights. We'll be right in the middle of the action. Although there can be traffic issues in the evening (although not too bad midweek) the beauty of the setting more than compensates, IMHO.
Cindy and I had the pleasure of volunteering to help set up and operate the festival in three different years, for about 3 to 4 months each time. We've made great friends there, and it's become one of our favorite events.
As mentioned, we were able to secure 25 sites, and are currently negotiating pricing on tours of historic Charleston, Fort Sumter, and Magnolia Plantation, as well as several group meals.
We'll be posting information on the FROG website soon, including a registration form, as soon as we can firm up the pricing and schedule. In the meantime, I wanted to give FR Forum members a "heads up."

I sent the information and the registration form to our web development team this afternoon. It should be on the FROG website by sometime midweek.
We'll have four nights of FHU camping right at the Festival, two dinners (one at the famous Hyman's Seafood House in the historic district of Charleston, with non-seafood entrees also available), three breakfasts, one lunch, tour of historic Charleston, boat tour to Fort Sumter, tour of Magnolia Plantation, free access to the Holiday Festival of Lights, free access to all Charleston County Parks, including Folly Beach and Pier on the Atlantic Ocean.
This is going to be fun!

Just returned from the park----------
We were just in Charleston for seven days at the county park. What a nice park and well kept. We were there starting 4/29/2012.
Our stay on # 49 at James Island
We will be very much interested in the festival, will be watching the schedule for more info.

James Island has long been one of our favorites. It's an absolutely beautiful and spotlessly maintained campground in a beautiful park setting of lakes, trees, marshes, wildlife, and more. And the Holiday Festival of Lights makes it magical during the Christmas season.
The information and registration form for the Holiday Festival of Lights trip are now available at www.forestriverfrog.com/Rally/#charleston, or you can just go to the FROG website and click on "FROG Rallies & Trips."
We've scheduled four nights at the park, right in the middle of the festival; two dinners; three breakfasts; tour of historic Charleston; tour of Charleston Harbor and Fort Sumter; tour of Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, and more.
Come join us for "Southern Lights and Southern Nights" in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, November 25-29.
