This is one of the best Rally's we've attended. We're looking forward to seeing the lights this year!

There are only 25 slots so don't wait too long to sign up!

Sites are going fast. Seventeen of the 25 sites have been taken since I sent out the newsletter announcement overnight on Monday. This is the only event other than the International Rally in Goshen that we've done every year (twice we had to do two weeks back-to-back), and it always fills up.

Charleston is a beautiful city, and the Holiday Festival of Lights is a great family event. The tours -- carriage tour, Fort Sumter, Boone Hall Plantation, and Patriot's Point -- add to the fun.

Yes, we go every other year. This year I plan on checking in on the C.S.S. Hunley on a "free" day. The South Carolina Aquarium is also well worth a visit...

Thanks. Have been there a lot of times and seen just about everything there is. One of our favorite places besides Charleston is Savannah GA. Later RJD

We have signed up and anxiously waiting for December. We will have to unwinterize the RV but feel its worth it.

Hey, I know that routine! We had to do the same thing for our first Charleston Rally. Then we had to winterize it again the afternoon we made it home. It's well worth it though...

Margie, you'll absolutely love Charleston and camping among the light displays at James Island County Park. It is well worth the inconvenience of having to de-winterize and then re-winterize the trailer.

Or, you could just head south at the first signs of fall in Maryland and hang out in a warmer climate and wait for the Festival of Lights rally.

Since the Maritimes trip last year, you and Mike have hit a number of FROG events. Nice folks and fun times, eh?

Mike

We have enjoyed attending the FROG rallies. All of fellow ribbiters are so friendly.

We usually target starting on the second Sunday of December, but it can vary a little bit depending on the day of the week on which Christmas falls. Twice we've ended up doing two weeks back to back.

That's also when I usually book Disney's Fort Wilderness. Maybe I can talk the wife into going to the rally, then 2 weeks at the Fort and skipping "family time" at Christmas..... I'm not going to hold my breath!

Here's hoping that Charleston fares as well as we did with Dorian and the Rally will still be on!

John & Janet, about an hour ago I spoke with our son Jim, a Lieutenant with the Charleston PD. While they're not discounting the danger, he says that the forecasts on which all of the first responders are relying is far less dire than some of what we're seeing on the news.

We'll know in the next couple of days, of course, but right now I anticipate that the Holiday Festival of Lights event will be largely unaffected. The park staff usually starts setting up the light displays this week, right after Labor Day, but I understand that they got an early start this year. The biggest factor we'll be watching is any damage to James Island County Park and Campground. We can make adjustments for just about anything else.

We'll pass on any updates as soon as we have them.

I just looked on the campground's website and they are currently renting sites. Based on that it looks like they dodged the worst of Dorian.

Are we able to book a site for the day before and possibly after the rally?

Thanks!

Here is a link to the parks website. When I looked neither "side" of the event had any openings. There are several other commercial campgrounds in the area.
