Great Times in the Maritimes

The last spot for this 18-day caravan was filled this afternoon, but if you are still interested,
go to the FROG web site and get on the waiting list. It is still a long time until this rally, and
while we hope nothing happens that prevents any of those who signed up from going, one
never knows what could happen between now and August. If any spots open in the future,
they will be filled from the wait list.

To all of the participants signed up for the "Great Times in the Maritimes" rally: We are in Florida for a couple of months, and have
limited internet and email access. As soon as we return home, we'll start sending you information to help with your planning to
attend this amazing adventure.

If anyone is still interested in attending should a spot open up, please be sure to get on the wait list via the "Events" page on the
official FROG website at www.forestriverfrog.com/events

We (DDC and I) would like to know how people are heading to Saint Andrews, N.B. ?
We both hope to get a golden ticket to Goshen, then leave from there. Go up to Canada and cut across that way, or head across 80-90 thru Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Maine.
Would like some info from somebody who has made this trip. Thanks

Hi guys. We are about an hour or so north of Komoka. We have done the P.E.I. Nova Scotia Cabot and N.B. trip once and just P.E.I. & N.B once. You are in for a real treat. The people are so nice and the landscape is really different from southwestern Ontario. Both times we went through Quebec (take the toll road south to bypass under Montreal...saves about an hour and lots of frustration). Then we followed the south shore of the St. Lawrence with a stop at Que. city KOA for a day in the old city. Next on to the Gaspe following the river. What a ride up and down. Make sure your brakes are good. then in your case down to St. Andrews. The Cabot is just as wild and maybe more so but just beautiful. There is a shorter route straight across to N.B. but we have always gone for the scenic route. Of course you know about the language difference in Que. and N.B. but it never posed a problem for us as the people are really accommodating for the most part.

If you plan to go direct from Goshen it would probably be shorter (and fuel & camping fees cheaper) to take the Ohio etc. route. We have come back that way from the Maritimes once and from Cape Cod once crossing back to Ont. around the Gananoque area. It is also a beautiful ride with lots to see and very nice people in Vermont and elsewhere. The road can be up and down and winding in the mountain area of Vermont but really scenic. I think if it was us we would definitely take the U.S. route east and maybe come back the Canadian way. By September the weather should hopefully be great for travelling. Okay. Bedtime for us elders but you guys travel safe. Old Guys (Brian and Joanne).

I don't know anything about how to get out there, last time I was in Halifax I flew there and that was back in my pre-trailer days. But while you're in that neck of the woods, there's two places you should try to make the time to stop by:

1) While you're in Halifax, I recommend visiting the Alexander Keith's Brewery. It's not your typical brewery type of tour, well worth the visit.

2) Back in NB, between NS and the Confederation bridge I came across Wine Garden Estates (Winegarden Estates - New Brunswick's only private winery and distillery with fruit and grape wines, liqueurs, eau-de-vie, schnaps, bitters). They've got a Honey Liqueur I fell in love with that I recommend you try. I like to drink mine sipping it out of a frosted shot glass. And if you do go there, do you mind picking me up a couple of extra bottles? I'm running low.

Your welcome. Just as a little bit of incentive for the U.S. route our gas price hit $1.36 per litre (Can. spelling) yesterday. That is equal to almost $5.25 Can. a U.S. gal. or aprox. $4.15 in real money. Unfortunately they are forecasting more increases with record high prices this summer. I'm sure DDC will keep you posted on the situation and I still think you guys are in for a real treat of a trip. Capt. Mike and his wife (Yvonne if I remember correctly) are really a nice couple. And your Canadian host should be great fun as well. Travel safe. Old Guys (Brian and Joanne)

Brian, thanks for your kind comment. Yvonne (yep, you remembered correctly) and I are really looking forward to this trip. And yes, Guy and Lil Brunet, our co-hosts, are wonderful to travel with. We did a lot of this Atlantic Canada trip with them in 2016.

Fuel prices continue to fluctuate here in the states, too. I saw diesel priced at $2.599 (US) per gallon yesterday, and just a few miles down the highway, a Flying J had theirs priced at $3.059 (US). It is what it is, and if I tried to second-guess and wait for the "optimum" time to travel, we would never go anywhere.

DDC and Lowbubba, as a point of interest, right now we are planning to take the US route when we head to Saint Andrews in August.

We are really looking forward to "Great Times in the Maritimes" this summer. I think it will be an unforgettable "rolling rally."

Brian, nice to hear from you again. Our best to both you and Joanne.

BTW, in response to Kaadk's comments, yes, there will be a little down time several places to visit local attractions....

Where was I when he made that very generous (albeit ridiculous) offer? I didn't hear nothin' 'bout that!

You told me that when your were telling me what was going to happen if the whales didn’t show up for the whale watching cruise. Has to do with Speedo’s and the Campground pool.

Lowbubba is confused again, the fuel costs covered by Capt Mike are only applicable to Canadian travellers on this trip.
