Thanks for the answers. I will have to talk to my people and see what I can do to assure that Patti's will be open upon our arrival. Cracked up over the "mic drop".

I think Bob wants me to get a bigger RV that can handle the weight I will put on by eating all that meat.

Now THAT is awful news! Hope they recover and are back in business soon.

Just for the record, the steaks, ribs, and 2" thick pork chop recommendation was intended to be multiple-choice.

I do, however, know a nice little place in Amarillo, TX where the 72-ounce steak, baked potato, salad, roll, and shrimp cocktail are free if you eat them all in an hour. (And no, I haven't, or even tried.)

We were there last year, but didn't see anybody attempt to do it...

THE BIG TEXAN'S 72 OZ STEAK RULES

Meal consists of: Shrimp Cocktail, Baked Potato, Salad, with Roll, Butter, and of course the 72 oz. Steak

Entire meal must be completed in one hour. If any of the meal is not consumed (swallowed)…YOU LOSE!

Before the time starts, you will be allowed to cut into the steak, and take one bite. If the steak tastes good and is cooked to your satisfaction, we will start the time upon your acceptable approval. The time will not stop, and the contest is on, so make SURE before you say “yes.”

Once you have started you are not allowed to stand up, leave your table, or have anyone else TOUCH the meal.

You will be disqualified if anyone assists you in cutting, preparing or eating of your meal. This is YOUR contest.

You don’t have to eat the fat, but we will judge this.

Should you become ill, the contest is over… YOU LOSE! (Please use the container provided as necessary.)

You are required to pay the full amount up front; if you win we will refund 100%.

You must sit at a table that we assign.

If you do not win the steak challenge, you are welcome to take the leftovers with you.

No consumption or sharing of the leftovers is allowed in the restaurant once the contest is over.

If you fail to complete the challenge, you must pay the full $72 dollars.

On one of our stops there, we saw three people try. They all eventually gave up. Never had a chance.

By the way, their count, but with only about 3,000 listed, is that 9,569 people have done it. The record is 8 minutes 52 seconds.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

I witnessed 4 people attempt it, none were successful and none appeared to be enjoying themselves.

We're In

We're in, Indymule will be making a return to the infamous Frogoberfest in 2018. Maria and I are going full time next month. I'm not going to retire until next April but why wait to the last minute to liquidate all our earthly possessions. Hope to have the house sold this summer. So you all there.

Steve, a key part of the answer is highlighted in red. You're adding 600 miles, but the trade-off is camping with FROG friends.

On the way west you get to travel part of New England, the Berkshires (how appropriate!), and more for the beautiful fall foliage. Your route to Florida then gives you the opportunity to travel part of the Great River Road, particularly the Illinois side from Grafton to Alton along the bluffs that tower over the Mississippi. You'll thread your way between the limestone bluffs and the river, and maybe stop to learn the legend of the Piasa Bird.

The direct route takes you through western Kentucky, where you can stop by the Land Between the Lakes and have dinner at Patty's 1880's Settlement in Grand Rivers. The steaks, the ribs, and the signature 2" thick pork chops are incredible. Leave room for the flower pot bread and the homemade pies.

In Tennessee you'll catch the southern portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and maybe veer just slightly east to catch the magnificent fall foliage as it continues to follow you southward in the Smoky Mountains.

This, my friend, is a no-brainer. Iowa, here you come!
Hopefully Patti’s Settlement will be reopened this summer. They had a bad fire and are rebuilding.
