We stay on the 80, not much in way of missing the traffic, then we hit the toll road 20 E then to the 33 to goshen.

Try any way you can. Saturday I came from Wisconsin on I-90 through Chicago and it was one of the worst roads I traveled this summer. To boot the toll on the I-90 skyroad was $16.80 for MH and toad plus all the additional tolls. The road had construction for about 40 continuous miles with radar traps set up. My advise find another route even if it means going out of your way.

Stay on 80 out of the rightmost lane and you will be fine. Not any other options that are better.

Try going through at about 3:00 A.M. No really I don't think there is a way around it. We went through there in June and it was terrible. Now I see why Illinois has one of the highest traffic fatality rate in the country.

No it does not, it's one of the lowest. Deaths per 100,000 population.

We went through Chicago mid-day last year and it really wasn't to bad.
We did drive around the toll booth on a alternate route but really wasn't worth it. IMO

My plan also. I have tried other routes, but nothing good. Just bite the bullet, pay the tolls, stay in the right lane in the consturction zone to continue on I80.

Well, I'm coming from st. Louis and have a couple of options. I think you guys have about convinced to me to head further east before I go north, maybe over to highway 31 out of Indianapolis.

We are coming from OKC. Taking I44, loop around St. Louis to I70. Just outside Effingham, IL we catch 57 and head north. Cut east on 24 and then north on 31. We will divide the trip up into 3-300 mile days. Day 1 to Strafford, MO. Day 2 to Effingham, IL and Day 3 into Goshen. Last time we went to Goshen we stayed on 57 to 80...UGH!

Thanks for the tip.
From the map, I was guessing that 57 should be a good 4 lane interstate.
What is 24 like going across? Looks like 2 lane on the map?
I have been on that last leg up 31 before.

We actually left from Texas and are in St Louis for a couple days.

I think I'll adjust my route plans. Not that I actually had any before right this minute. lol

I live in that area and go to Indiana often. Take i80 to i80/94 east. You don't even go through Chicago but a suburb. At times it can be slow but they improved it a lot over the years

Last year we came thru Milwaukee and down the Dan Ryan on Sunday noon to I 80 and across. NOT this year!!!!!!! Not good!!! This year we're going south to Joliet, stay a couple of nights then sneak across I 80 past Chicago. Also picked a I Pass to sneak past the toll booths.

We haven't been that way ourselves, but DH looked at map and says it's a decent 4 lane road. If you're not in a hurry, going through those small towns is fun! Makes me think of what America should be!

It's not the slow so much as the rude!!! Especially the truck drivers. We had trucks get beside us and blow those air horns for no reason...usually we would see them flipping us off, too. And yes we were in right lane
