Great Faces, Great Places Black Hills Adventure

Beautiful, rugged and mysterious, the Black Hills have long been considered sacred by the Lakota. Steep hills covered in Ponderosa pines, towering rock spires reaching toward the sky, massive granite mountains, rolling plains, and the otherworldly eroded features of the Badlands give the area a character all its own.

We’ll stay at beautiful Rafter J Bar Ranch, surrounded by broad meadows and towering pines. Rafter J Bar provides a quiet and serene setting just minutes fro...m Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, and much more. Arrive early in the day, because following orientation we’ll be leaving the campground for a welcome dinner and music show.

The next day we’ll enjoy a monumental breakfast under the gaze of the great stone faces on Mount Rushmore before touring the monument. We’ll ride the rails on an 1880 Steam Train from Keystone to Hill City on the way to the Crazy Horse Memorial, the world’s largest monument sculpture, still under construction after 65 years. Finally, we’ll visit Custer State Park, observing much of the wildlife and the massive stone formations and beautiful scenery of Iron Mountain Road.

The next two days are opportunities to explore on your own. Return to the memorials, especially to see Mount Rushmore lighted at night and the laser show at Crazy Horse. Visit historic Deadwood, the rough and tumble town that made Wild Bill Hickock a legend, and where he unfortunately sat one night playing poker with his back to the saloon door. Spend some time in Rapid City, the City of Presidents, or go underground for an adventure in Wind Cave or Jewel Cave. Our farewell event will be a filet mignon dinner at the historic Alpine Inn, dating back over 120 years in nearby Hill City.

Your Black Hills adventure includes:
˜ Five nights of full-hookup camping
˜ Orientation
˜ Mount Rushmore tour, including breakfast
˜ 1880 Steam Train excursion
˜ Crazy Horse Memorial tour
˜ Custer State Park tour
˜ Chuckwagon Dinner and Cowboy Music Show
˜ Dinner at historic Alpine Inn
˜ Two continental breakfasts
˜ Time to sightsee on your own and enjoy the spectacular beauty of the area
˜ A lifetime of memories and friendships

Join us in the Black Hills as part of our Wild West Roundup that includes Colorado Springs, Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and the Black Hills.

SPECIAL DISCOUNT NOTE: If you go on more than one of the trips in the Wild West Roundup, you can deduct $25 (per trip) from the total cost of the second, third, and fourth trips.

Oops! September 8-13. This is the fourth stop in the Wild West tour that starts in Colorado Springs, then Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and finally the Black Hills.

Go to the "FROG Rallies and Trips" link on www.forestriverinc.com and scroll down for information on each of the segments.

Less than a month away now. Ralph and I are looking forward to seeing friends and meeting new ones. It appears as if the weather has already cooled quite a bit; great for the evening campfires.

Who else is attending...other than Bob & Cindy?

Can't wait and be safe on the road!

Darn - Gonna miss it by a week! We'll be in SD weekend of the 20th to visit friends. We were out there in the mid '90s, and I must say it's a beautiful area. Show me mountains, and I'm right at home.
