Lori,

The Texas FROG rally could not have been better. You and Dan and all of your volunteers did a heck of a job. For those of you who missed it, here's a sample of what you missed.

Rally was scheduled to start Thursday night but for those of us who were there early, Wednesday night saw an impromptu potluck, with Lori's homemade (OK, made on the spot) chicken and dumplings as the main course.

Thursday evening...meet and greet, and more food....sandwiches, chips, beans, etc. And entertainment by the Fiddlin' FROGS, (guitar and autoharp).

Friday morning...Ron Hoover RV was on site with 3 new units for the FROGS to see, along with donuts, coffee and juice. They also conducted a Q & A session and a winterizing demo.

Friday evening...potluck and another session with the Fiddlin' FROGS. As usual, a FROG potluck had tons of excellent food. Everything you could imagine, from soups, entrée, veggies, to deserts. It is AMZING what can be made in an RV

Saturday...wine tasting tour and that evening, what else, more food. An outstanding brisket dinner, courtesy of Forest River and FROG Bob.

Between eating, FROGS had ample opportunity to tour the Texas Hill Country, from Fredricksburg to Bandera...wineries to the Admiral Nimitz museum.

The 70 or so units that gathered at Buckhorn Lake Resort (what a BEAUTIFUL park) were mostly Texans, but the 3 couples from Louisiana, 2 from New Mexico, 1 from Oklahoma, and 1 from Missouri were made to feel most welcome...kind of like being honorary Texans for the weekend.

Again, thanks to Lori and Dan for hosting, and to everyone who worked so hard to make the first Texas FROG rally a roaring success. Thanks, too, for letting Yvonne and me be a part of it.

Spring 2014 TX rally??

No details at this point, but I think this could possibly take the form of sponsoring a meal, providing goodies for drawings or door prizes, or possibly gift bag stuff. They indicated that it takes a minimum of ten units/20 people to make the organizational work of a rally worthwhile, but based on the response Lori is getting that doesn't look like it will be a problem.

The other reason I have gone with them so far is that they are more centrally located. Not everything of interest is on the Island. While Lone Star Flight Museum, Pleasure Pier, Opera House, historic homes and much more are on the island there is just as much on the Mainland. Examples include, but not limited to Space Center, Kemah Boardwalk, Haak Winery, Sea Center, Tanger Outlet Mall, Dog Track, Terminal Air Museum, etc. LaMarque is in the middle; it doesn't take long to get to any of those venues from there.
I will try to keep gathering information since we are so far out, but I wanted to get started so that folks like us, who can't make the October rally, have something to look forward to!
Has anything been set up for this spring? WE had such fun at the Kerrville rally and would love to go to one this spring.

It's not official yet, but I spoke last week with someone who's working to put together another Texas event. We have a "Waltz Across Texas" tour going to San Antonio, Austin, and Grapevine (Dallas/Fort Worth area) from March 5-16, and the hope is to have an event that coordinates with the end of that tour.

I hope to know more in the next week or two so that we can let everyone know about it, and to identify those who are stepping up to host it.

No Galveston County Rally Planned By Us At This Time

For a variety of reasons we did not proceed with plans for a Galveston County rally this spring, but I did see on the Forums shortly after the Kerrville rally that the organizers of that event were planning an on island rally in Galveston sometime in 2014.

There will be a Chapter 10 Escapees rally in Pearland during the first week of April. Several trips are planned, along with onsite activities. The park has a pool and spa and is located next door to a county park with golf course and fishing lake. All are welcome as either members or guests. We hope to have the schedule firmed up by mid-January.

Another group you should know about is the Texas Boomers, part of the irv2.com organization. They rally almost every month and you can check out their website or Facebook page. No rally for them in January, but they'll be in Bandera in March as well as other locations throughout the year.

While FROG is limited to those of us who own Forest River products, the two organizations above are open to all. The groups are different, but we have been welcomed by both and know that you would be as well.

Also, we are always open to suggestions from people who would like to meet up informally and camp together without the organized activities of a rally. You can contact us by email, randsborgman@gmail.com, if you'd just like to get away for a weekend or a few days mid-week, the joys of being retired.
