Back from the North Rim...

...of the Grand Canyon!

We just returned from spending a week boondocking on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We had a great time and enjoyed wonderful weather. As always, pictures simply cannot capture the majesty, magnitude and beauty of the Canyon, but here are a few pictures from our week. Enjoy...we did!

1) Crossing Navajo Bridge
2) Our Campsite
3) Bright Angel Point
4) Walhalla
5) Angel's Window

Glenn, GREAT photos.
How much did you have to run your A/C up there? Any A/C at night?
How much did you run the generator to charge batteries?
Thanks
Jack

Great shots! The North Rim is so much different than the South Rim. Sitting at the Lodge on the North Rim at sunset is just a really special time.

Again, great shots and thanks for sharing.

Nice pictures. I would love to make it to the north rim one day. Made it to the south rim about 10 years ago and seriously thought "wow this is it?" Not to say I wasn't impressed but it was a pretty major let down. Not to mention I got a speeding ticket about 3 minutes outside the park. Bedrock City was pretty cool though for a dirty old tourist trap.

Were you camped inside the park? We just returned Friday for a trip there. Windy as heck for the drive out Sunday.

Glenn, what do you mean by boondocking? Can you camp outside of the campgrounds? Like, pick a spot and plunk down your trailer?

I hope you both have a great time. Are you going to the South Rim or will either of you be visiting the North Rim?

We never used the A/C. One night it was below freezing and a couple of other nights it was near freezing. Highs were in the 60s and low 70s. Yesterday (the day we left) was the warmest. We used the heat quite a bit at night. We ran the generator the fourth day we were there to recharge. Probably could made made it through the fourth night, but figured why chance it.

I have to agree. I really enjoy the North Rim.

My first visit to the Grand Canyon was to the South Rim 20+ years ago. It was very crowded and it was a very hazy/smokey day. I couldn't even see the other side. I was somewhat disappointed as it certainly did not live up to the images I had in my mind from Arizona Highways. Since then there have been better experiences with the South Rim, but my favorite is still the North Rim.

We were camped in Kaibab National Forest, just outside of the National Park. It was even windier yesterday (Monday) than it was Sunday. Made for some tiring driving.

Yep, we just found a spot in Kaibab National Forest (dispersed camping) that was somewhat centrally located for the spots we wanted to go to. There is a lot of driving to see the North Rim.
