Boondocking near Saint Louis

I would really like to take a short trip to try Boondocking in the area near Saint Louis. I own a gas generator (that may be a little too big and loud) and I have a 31 foot Flagstaff.

Can you help me by either suggesting some places to try, or by providing a resource to help me find something. I had read somewhere that national forests are one place, but when I search their sites, I don't find much.
