how does the ac perform while boondocking seriously, you people get into some out of the way spots. not sure i want to drag a 5er over hills and dales like some pics show.

My generator (Yamaha 2400) will not consistently power our AC, so if it is so warm that we need it we just drive a little farther to a higher elevation that has the temps we desire. The nice thing about Arizona is that there are lots of "out of the way" spots that have fire roads that will easily accommodate most 5ers. I could have easily gotten a 5er to any of the spots where my pictures were taken.

what elevation were you at. i seem to recall flagstaff is at or near 5000 ft and nice in the summer. i never lived there, but passed thru many times as otr driver. a little west of flagstaff on 40 it seemed to rise some in elevation, and become more wooded. always liked northern arizona.

Flagstaff is at around 7000' and is definitely pretty nice during the summer (compared to Phoenix). The Rim pics are at around 7000', but the desert (winter) pics are at about 1100' elevation.

We generally boondock in areas where the AC is not needed. Living in Phoenix with 115 degree days during the summer, when I "camp" I want cool temperatures. If the AC is needed, we have 2 Honda EU2000i generators with a parallel kit which will run the AC without problem. When using the AC is the only time we need to run both generators, otherwise one will suffice.

We used to enjoy camping during the summer in the White Mountains of AZ in the Big Lake, Alpine, Hannagan Meadow area before the 520,000 acre wild fire burned much of the area in 2011. It is around 9000' elevation and rarely gets above 80 degrees during the summer.

I can't even get our 5er in some camp sites because of the approach angles. I don't think with 3 kids we could boondock and stay sane, but its cool seeing what others do!

Nice! Wyo700..... Those pictures remind me of when I lived in Jackson and would go camping in the Gros Ventre area of Wyoming. Beautiful State!

I'm surprised to see so many people that DON'T boondock. I guess that's the difference between RVers and Campers. If I didn't boondock I wouldn't even own my Trailer. Boondocking is the sole reason we bought it. Awesome pics guys! Hopefully I will get some up of our adventures here soon.

I have found the opposite to be true. The ability to have our family together completely away from the distractions of life (television, cel phones, internet, etc.) is what has kept us sane and built strong family bonds.

I did have to have our fifth wheel lifted 3" so that I would have the clearance necessary to not hit the bed rails of the Power Wagon on some of the trails we drive. It was definitely worth it.

Here in the South, never been interested in Boondocking BUT if I lived near some of you guys (Wyoming/Idaho/Arizona/Oregon, etc) I'd be drinking that kool-aid, Thanks for these awesome pics!

Yeah a 34' fiver has some problems with angles and here in OK I think we have more 100+ deg days than 32- days so a/c is a must. Also such a limited water supply would never last us a day. But most our camping is at the lake

There is a mod I just completed that installed a delay relay on the blower fan. It delays turning the fan motor on until the compressor stabilizes. Even a Honda 2000 in ECO mode will run a 13.5K with the delay relay installed.
