Fresh water sources

This might be a dumb question, but here goes..

Besides filling the fresh water (potable) tanks/jugs at CGs or at home, are there common places that you could fill blue jugs?

Just wondering if anyone has found a common source (free) in their travels...?

Most grocery stores or Wally World have filling stations however you have to pay for the water.

Not a dumb question at all and one I've pondered myself. I know some municipalities will let you fill at a public tap for little or no cost.

Are those filling stations for the clear water station type jugs? I guess I never have noticed.

Sorry I can't answer that I just see many folks around here that have bad wells using the fill stations at the grocery store for their drinking water.

Reports that some fire stations and churches will let you fill for free.

We look for the nearest state or county park. I've never had to pay at any of those. I always go to the office and ask if its okay, they usually have an out of the way tap if not near the dump station.

Probably any truck stop but like service stations you probably have to pay 50 cent or a buck to top off.

I know this is an old post but since I just read it for the first time I would like to offer my suggestion.

I do a lot of traveling and carry 4 blue 7gal water jugs. I also have a funnel attached to a 6 foot hose. I will look for a city park with a water fountain or a nearby school and use their water fountain. Though I prefer to go to a park first. Also many rest areas have a water fill area, and if not always have a water fountain or sink in the bathroom. I don't use this water for drinking, only shower, toilet and dishes. I prefer to buy my drinking water when on the road. I've been doing this since 1997 and have never been asked not to.

We have found county fairgrounds ( not during fair times) generally have plenty of water sources and I call ahead and ask permission telling them I am passing through and could use a fill and almost every time they say no problem. Many are even licensed campgrounds and therefore have full sanitation stations. One we just used in Ithaca, Michigan allowed us to stay overnight, dump and fill...all for free! Again, I always call ahead though and ask permission and also tell them I am happy to pay a small fee or donate but many say no problem.
