I do not find it worth while to switch everything over while using the generator to charge the batteries.

NO, I use it to charge the batteries and maybe to plug in some USB devices that might need charging that I did not get charged in the truck.
Hot water heater does not come on that often if not using hot water, and the fridge draws so little propane; it is not worth the hassle.
