I was thinking about getting the EF2400iSHC version. It's about $1400 and weighs 75 lbs. Any comments on the EF2400iSHC ?

Thanks,
Bean
We have the EF2400iSCH and love it. We have used it for power outages as well and boondocking. It is extremely quiet. We heard one like herk's a few years ago and were able to have a conversation while standing right next to it without having to raise our voices. We could even hear other generators running at other camp sites.

We also use Sta-Bil in all of our equipment and have never had any issues of thing starting after sitting extended periods of time.

For those that don't know there are 12 volt powered HD televisions out there. I have a Sky something 19 inch screen Hd with built in dvd player that works totally on 12 volts. So nice when boondocking or just spending the night somewhere that the generator or 110 volts is not required. If anyone wants to know brand and model I will get it for them.. I believe it was around $450.

yes, it isn't common, but a few of the new Chinese-made inverter generators do have them. Boliy is one of those and has been around for about 4-5 years.

I got one of these:

Gentron 3500 watt RV generator | GeneratorDepot.us

It came with the trailer. It is a little loud, but it is nice to have the 30 amp RV plug.

The 12 volt unit I have is a a Skyworth 19 inch. It is HD but I am sure it is only 720p but with that small of screen I am not sure you can tell the difference if it was a 1080p. I love it particularly the 12 volt deal works great since it doesn't need anything more than the battery. I wasn't sure if the Naxa has a built in cd player but the Skyworth does. One problem with Skyworth when I bought it two years plus ago it was around $400. I love the price of the Naxa. Please let me know how it works. I could use one more set however, I would like somehting in the 32 inch range 12 volts with cd player.

Although quite a jump in price from the 22" model, Naxa also has a 24" 12-volt model. For boondocking/dry camping, I think I would prefer the Naxa model simply from what I am reading, it seems to draw less power than the Skyworth.

Great....another item on the "wish list" that I have to find $$$ for. Stop it! You guys are killing me!

got it in "white". has just a few superficial surface scratches, otherwise works great!

one benefit, it is DC powered using an AC adapter like a laptop.
i'm searching for a 12 volt-4amp (48 watt) DC cigarette lighter car plug so that i don't have to use a small inverter.

First off- where do you live?

Second, have you confirmed the wattage it's using? My 12" TV is spec'd for 24 watts; but I've never seen it use more than 15 watts.

I live in southern california (usa). Don't know why it doesn't show up as part of my profile.

Regarding watts used to power the Haier 22" LED...
- I took the AC adapter that comes w/ the unit to a couple of electronic stores (radio shack. & fry's)
- both told me that I needed to use a DC cord that powered at 48 watts (4 amps)
- I have no reason not to believe that info as factual
- I'lll search on internet to locate a DC plug that converts 12 volts to 48 watts and has same plug size that'll fit in rear of TV

You can not convert volts to watts. Watts are how power is measured.
Think of volts as water in a big tank. The bigger the tank the more pressure (voltage) is available to go down a pipe of a certain size (wire).

When you hook a water powered device up to the pipe and start it running (open the valve), water flows out of the pipe under the pressure from the tank (measured in volts). The amount of water running past a point along the pipe is the flow (measured in amps).

To find the POWER being used by the device you measure the Pressure available at the outlet of the tank (voltage) and the flow past the point on the pipe (amps) and you get the power the device is using in Watts.

IF the device is a powered pump (short circuit or big honkin hair dryer) the device will try to SUCK water through the pipe. All that water can't FIT in the pipe and the pipe will get hot trying to. Soon the pipe will fail (collapse in the example or catch fire or melt in electricity).

Did that help or hurt?

The difference between the $200 and the $500 might be noise levels.
Try to find the db rating of any generator you're interested in.
Some are MUCH louder than others.

AND if you only plan to boon dock a couple days a year WHY do you
want a generator???
It's just another gas engine you'll have to keep winterized 99% of the time.

We just boondocked 5 nights in Shenandoah NP and didn't bother to
start our Honda. I wish I'd left it at home as it was taking up valuable
space in the back of my truck!

I'm going to blame Lou. He's a bad influence on the rest of us.
