That generator is NOT an inverter generator and NOT appropriate for use in a campground.
Sorry didn't read that much into it. Yes you are correct. I had been sporatically reading the whole thread and got side tracked on the inverter wattage problem since it happened to me.

Many people, including myself at one time, do not know that for every 3 db gain in noise means that the sound level is DOUBLED.

My 59 db inverter generator is 1/2 as loud as a 62db generator. A 65 db generator is VERY loud compared to most inverter generators rated at 59db or so.

Good luck in your search.

You can't go wrong with a Champion inverter generator but the two Harbor Freight ones are pretty good too!

Skyliner,
That's not correct. While the decibel scale is logarithmic, it's not quite as dramatic as you state. There are lots of nuances in sound, volume, and perceived loudness. The +3 db doubles the power/intensity/energy of the sound. However, it doesn't result in a doubling of the perceived loudness to a listener. To double the volume as we listeners think about it requires approximately a +10 db difference.

The 62 db generator is about 25% louder than yours, not 100%. In fact, some resources state that a +3 db is not very perceptible at all, let alone 2x as loud.

Here's a chart:

Hope that helps.

With that said, many larger parks have 60 db limits (e.g., Yellowstone CGs). It's probably the wave of the future.

Costco has in Warehouse 399.00. Picture won't load it's a Firman 4500 invertor generator. with 30 rv receptacle.

I saw the Firman $399 at Costco yesterday... no where does it say INVERTER...

that is a loud open frame generator... it does have the RV plug, but it is not campground suitable.

Anytime I see a generator less than $500 you can almost be sure it is not an inverter style (low noise) generator, especially when the wattage is greater than 1,000 watts.

Yeah, there are some good deals on inverter generators to be had out there, but I have to side with you on that comment.

This is the only small generator/inverter that I am aware of which has a 30 amp plug in. I can tell you that comes in very handy and it is just one less thing to have to carry around.

It is very quiet and I have seen some battles over generator noise fought in dry campgrounds. One even where a ranger came in with a decimeter. Given that crowding is happening more and more in campgrounds, quiet is very important.

I can't hear this one 100 feet away. I have never had a complaint.

Or buy an A-IPower 2000 watt inverter generator from Costco. Powered by the reliable Yamaha MZ80 engine. $499.99. It comes with one 30 amp twist lock outlet, an RV 30 amp adaptor that fits into the twist lock outlet, parallel cables that others charge extra for, tool kit and oil funnel. Two will cost you the same as one Honda 2000 without the parallel cables.

I have harbor freight predator 3500 Watts it runs everything and with the air on I can’t hear it when I am in the camper. We had a honda 2000watt and the predator 3500 watt. Running at the same time. The Honda has one camper plugged in with coffee pot on. With coffee maker loads the predator was quieter since it wasn’t working as hard, it also had three campers plugged into, running chargers, fan or ect on top of the coffee maker.
